Thai Binh Fine Arts: Reaching for Development

Việt NamViệt Nam12/02/2024

Amidst the vibrant atmosphere of diverse cultural activities taking place in 2023, the field of artistic creation also achieved many successes, particularly in fine arts. Not only were works recognized and highly appreciated at national and international art competitions and exhibitions, but artists from Thai Binh also engaged in many exemplary activities spreading the love of art, demonstrating the principle of "art for humanity."

An exhibition showcasing outstanding paintings by members of the Fine Arts branch of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association is being held.

Throughout the 12 months of 2023, the Fine Arts Branch of the Thai Binh Literature and Arts Association consistently engaged in activities aimed at its members, such as organizing field trips, facilitating information gathering, participation in exhibitions and competitions, and opportunities for exchange and learning from artists across the country. From the beginning of the year, the Branch organized painting workshops with artists from Nam Dinh at several locations outside the province and at the national special historical site of the mausoleum and temple of the Tran Dynasty kings in Tien Duc commune (Hung Ha). This resulted in the collection of many valuable works of art, among the 52 paintings displayed at the "Spring Colors" art exhibition organized by the Thai Binh Literature and Arts Association at the Tran Temple festival. This attracted public attention and inspired the artists at the start of spring. Besides painting in the warm spring weather, many artists from the branch participated in a buffalo decoration painting competition during the Doi Son Tich Dien festival (Ha Nam province) - a unique cultural event that contributes to encouraging agricultural production and building new rural areas. Notably, in this competition, three artists from Thai Binh province won first, second, and consolation prizes, encouraging artists in the branch to compete in creating more high-quality works of art for the public.

The propaganda poster "Uncle Ho always cared about the children and teenagers in the mountainous border region" by artist Do Nhu Diem was awarded the C prize in the theme "Studying and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh in the period 2021 - 2023" at the ceremony commemorating the 65th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's third visit to Thai Binh.

Artist Nguyen Quoc Viet, Head of the Fine Arts Branch, shared: "The branch currently has 45 members, who are always enthusiastic in participating in creative activities and exhibitions to serve political objectives and art-loving audiences. Many activities took place last year, such as participating in creative camps in four border districts of Ha Giang province, painting live in Hung Ha district with local art teachers, and conducting field trips to Pu Luong (Thanh Hoa) and Quang Yen town (Quang Ninh)... Despite financial difficulties, members have always been proactive in securing resources to participate in live painting sessions both within and outside the province, and actively submitting their works to exhibitions with the message of enhancing public aesthetics and fostering humane individuals in modern life."

Many domestic and international exhibitions in which artists from Thai Binh have participated include: the "Spring Sunshine" exhibition at the Hai Phong Fine Arts and Film Exhibition Center, the "Thai Binh - Land of Alluvial Soil" exhibition, the 28th Red River Delta Regional Fine Arts Exhibition, exhibitions at museums in South Korea, and the 2023 International Fine Arts Exhibition with the theme "Living with Heritage" at Hue University... Notably, artist Ta Van Quan of the branch organized his 3rd solo exhibition in Hanoi, marking a significant milestone in his artistic career. In addition, several artists participated in the propaganda poster design competition "Building a courageous, humane, and people-serving style for the People's Public Security Force" organized by the Ministry of Public Security, winning high awards such as artist Do Nhu Diem (Award A), artist Cao Tuan Viet (B), and artist Do Duc Do (Honorable Mention). For many years, artists Do Nhu Diem and Cao Tuan Viet have established their reputation and the quality of their propaganda paintings through consistently winning national awards, contributing to the propaganda efforts of the province, region, and the nation, and earning the admiration of art lovers nationwide.

Artist Cao Tuan Viet, from the Fine Arts Branch, said: "As one of the senior members of the Branch, I am delighted that many young artists are very active, dynamic, and enthusiastic about their profession, representing great hope for the Branch. Furthermore, the close attention given by the leaders of the Literature and Arts Association to its members has created a high-quality creative competition. I am particularly impressed with the Branch's practical creative activities in 2023, which took us to many places, provinces, and cities, and each trip was effective and practical for the members' professional work. These things motivate older artists like myself and artist Do Nhu Diem to strive even harder to contribute to art." Hopefully, in the future, to help artists in Thai Binh achieve even greater success, the Association will have specific creative plans for each competition and exhibition, implementing and mobilizing the participation of all members, not only practically enhancing the spirit of solidarity and cohesion but also creating a widespread and far-reaching movement.

The success of 2023 serves as a foundation for the Fine Arts Association to set new goals aimed at developing the capabilities and creativity of its members. This includes focusing on encouraging creative spirit, honoring artistic achievements, and motivating artists to actively introduce and disseminate new works to art lovers both within and outside the province, following in the footsteps of previous generations to build a more developed fine arts scene in Thai Binh.
