They lost to Spain in the quarter-finals, by the narrowest margin possible, in a context that UEFA itself recently admitted: the referee missed a penalty for Germany.

Having achieved success with their short-term goal of EURO 2024, coach Nagelsmann extended his contract with the DFB. Now comes the long-term story: aiming for the 2026 World Cup. Despite winning the 2014 World Cup, Germany has been eliminated after the group stage in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups and has now dropped out of the top 10 in the FIFA rankings. The 2024-2025 Nations League season is a stepping stone, an excellent opportunity for Nagelsmann to assess the squad, test new players, and develop a solid and stable tactical approach for the German national team.
