Nam Dinh FC has reached a preliminary agreement to sign striker Nguyen Van Toan on a three-year contract.
Nguyen Van Toan returns to the V-League after a year playing for Seoul E-land in K-League 2.
Van Toan will return to Vietnam at the end of this month to negotiate some remaining details before signing a contract with Nam Dinh. He will join the team at Thien Truong Stadium on a free transfer, as his contract with Seoul E-land is about to expire.
Van Toan rose through the ranks of the HAGL Arsenal JMG Academy alongside Nguyen Cong Phuong, Luong Xuan Truong, Nguyen Tuan Anh, and others. He started playing in the V-League in 2015 while representing the Vietnam U19 team. A year later, he made his debut for the Vietnam national team.
Van Toan's contract with HAGL expired at the end of 2022, and he decided not to renew it. Nam Dinh then made an offer, but Van Toan chose to join Seoul E-land out of respect for club owner Doan Nguyen Duc, not wanting to move directly to another V-League team.
Van Toan was unlucky, suffering several injuries during his year playing for Seoul E-land. However, he still made 10 appearances, including eight in K-League 2.
Nam Dinh is actively recruiting players to prepare for the new season, after an unsuccessful performance in the V-League 2023. The team from Nam Dinh spent a lot of money to recruit a number of players such as Nguyen Huu Tuan, Tran Nguyen Manh, Nguyen Phong Hong Duy, Hendrio... but did not achieve the expected results. After losing to CAHN in the fourth round of Group A, second phase of the V-League 2023, the team no longer has much hope of winning the championship with only 23 points, nine points behind league leaders Hanoi. In the National Cup, Nam Dinh lost 0-2 to Viettel in the quarterfinals.
