The incident that occurred at the University of Hong Kong (China) is attracting the attention of the media and the public. More than 700 “nude” photos created by AI were found on the laptop of a male student of the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong (HKU).
A student accidentally discovered the photos. After the incident was reported to the school, the male student was given a disciplinary warning. The male student also sent a formal apology to the victims and voluntarily withdrew from the international student exchange program.

The case of a male student at Hong Kong University using AI to create "hot" photos with the faces of female classmates is causing a stir in public opinion (Illustration photo: SCMP).
However, the school announced that it will continue to investigate and cooperate with authorities to consider further handling.
Victims of photo manipulation in this case hope that authorities will soon have legal reforms to deal with the act of creating "hot" content without consent, even if this content has not been distributed.
Recently, Hong Kong Chief Executive Lee Ka-chiu has instructed school leaders to strictly handle similar cases. At the same time, he also warned that acts that damage the honor and image of others may constitute a crime.
The Department of Innovation, Technology and Industry said it will continue to monitor issues arising in the process of individuals and units using AI, as well as review global AI management trends, to come up with appropriate solutions for similar incidents.
Currently, the development of specific laws related to AI is still a new issue globally. Regarding the incident that happened at HKU, the Office of the Personal Data Protection Commissioner announced that it has opened a criminal investigation.
Sun Dong, director general of the Ministry of Science and Technology, warned AI users that they must take legal responsibility for how they use the tool. “AI is a double-edged sword... It is important to have appropriate guidance and a comprehensive legal framework,” Sun told reporters.
Ms. Christine Choi Yuk-lin - Director of the Education Bureau - also spoke out asking universities to strengthen moral education and human values for students.
17-year-old male student in Spain is being investigated for using AI to put his classmate's face into a "nude" photo
Recently, Spanish police announced that a 17-year-old male student is being investigated for allegedly using AI to create nude photos with the faces of many female classmates and then... sell them online.
The investigation was launched after 16 female students at an educational institution in the city of Valencia reported the incident. Some female students even had fake social media accounts created, which posted pornographic images and videos . Through the initial investigation, the police identified the suspect as a male student at the school.
Spanish authorities are actively developing a law to deal with AI-related crimes, including the creation of "nude" images using AI without the consent of the parties involved.
