As a locality experiencing a significant increase in population due to migration each year, the education sector in Lien Chieu district is facing immense pressure to ensure sufficient quantity and quality of schools. In response to this situation, the district government has proactively and effectively implemented the project to build, upgrade, and expand schools in accordance with the city's guidelines; focusing investment on key areas and accelerating the construction progress of projects. During the 2021-2025 period, a series of school construction projects in the district were started and put into use, significantly contributing to reducing overcrowding and improving learning conditions for students.

Over the past year, Hong Quang Primary School (Hoang Van Thai Street, Hoa Khanh Nam Ward) received nearly 25 billion VND in investment to construct a new four-story building with a total floor area of 1,588 square meters. The project includes a multi-purpose playground, six subject classrooms, a kitchen, storage facilities, and a teachers' lounge. Simultaneously, the administrative building was renovated and expanded with a third floor; the perimeter fence and external infrastructure such as water supply and drainage, lighting, and landscaping were upgraded to be modern and aesthetically pleasing, contributing to a safe, friendly, and professional educational environment.

Another project that has been completed and put into use is Vo Thi Sau Primary School (No. 2 Tran Dinh Tri Street, Hoa Minh Ward) with a total investment of 25.33 billion VND. The school has a newly built three-story block of subject classrooms with a total floor area of 1,582 m2. A new one-story multi-purpose building has also been constructed. Many other items have been upgraded, including: the fence and gate system, the parking bay in front of the school; the schoolyard and landscape have been improved with added grass, trees, paved pavement, and an external drainage system; and investments have been made in fire safety equipment and teaching equipment.

According to Ms. Truong Thi Thanh Thuy, Principal of Vo Thi Sau Primary School, the investment in building a comprehensive and modern infrastructure is a crucial foundation for the school to gradually meet the criteria and aim for national standards. Currently, the school has nearly 1,800 students in 41 classes, while regulations stipulate that each class should not exceed 35 students. However, due to the rapid increase in the migrant population, the number of students per class must be maintained at 45, putting considerable pressure on the teaching staff and facilities. Therefore, renovating, upgrading, and expanding school facilities will not only partially address the overcrowding issue but also contribute to improving the quality of educational activities.

Modern and comprehensive facilities create a friendly learning environment, making students enthusiastic and eager to come to school every day. This also provides the conditions for teachers to innovate teaching methods, organize creative activities, and maximize the potential of each student. "The attention and investment from the local government and the education sector is a great motivation for the school to continuously strive, foster a spirit of unity and creativity to improve the overall quality of education in the future," Ms. Thuy emphasized.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lich, Head of the Education and Training Department of Lien Chieu District, the sharp increase in the migrant population has led to a dramatic increase in the number of students each school year in the district. This creates immense pressure on the school system, especially at the preschool, primary, and lower secondary levels. In this context, the effective implementation of the project to build, upgrade, and expand schools in the 2021-2025 period is crucial, addressing the shortage of classrooms while ensuring the educational rights of students in the district.

Over the past period, the district's education sector and related units have actively reviewed and assessed the current status of schools, while identifying priority areas for investment according to a roadmap, based on population density and student growth rate. The Department of Education and Training has closely coordinated with the Investment and Construction Project Management Board and other functional departments of the district to focus on resolving obstacles and accelerating the implementation of school construction projects in a synchronized, modern manner, suitable for long-term development needs.

Beyond simply building more classrooms or expanding facilities, the education sector in Lien Chieu district is particularly focused on improving the quality of infrastructure, investing in modern, environmentally friendly teaching equipment that aligns with educational reforms. This is a crucial foundation for schools to gradually meet national standards and strive to achieve them, contributing to the overall improvement of educational quality. This, in turn, creates the best possible learning environment for students and motivates teachers to innovate their teaching methods and enhance their professional capabilities.

“In the coming period, the sector will continue to coordinate with relevant units to resolve obstacles and leverage investment resources to complete the school network, meeting the requirements of educational development in the new phase. At the same time, we will focus on improving the capacity of management staff and teachers, linking investment in infrastructure with innovation in teaching methods and improving the quality of teaching and learning in a substantive way,” Mr. Lich said.
