This morning, April 24th, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Ha Sy Dong, inspected the rice harvest situation for the 2023-2024 winter-spring crop in Hai Lang district.

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the 2023-2024 winter-spring crop season, the entire province planted 25,969 hectares of rice. Of this, 20,500 hectares were high-quality rice; over 7,000 hectares were large-scale rice production areas; and over 1,380 hectares were under production and consumption linkages (including 669.75 hectares of organic rice production; 93.9 hectares of VietGAP; 102 hectares following food safety standards; 63 hectares of rice seed production; and over 447 hectares of commercial rice production).
Taking advantage of favorable weather conditions, localities throughout the province are currently harvesting the 2023-2024 winter-spring rice crop. As of April 23, 2024, the entire province had harvested over 3,000 hectares.
Specifically, Gio Linh district has 1,000 hectares; Hai Lang district has 1,000 hectares; Vinh Linh district has 400 hectares; Trieu Phong district has 300 hectares; Cam Lo district has 200 hectares; Dakrong district has 60 hectares; and Huong Hoa district has 40 hectares.

The 2023-2024 winter-spring harvest is expected to be completed before May 10, 2024. According to inspections by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and assessments from local authorities, the 2023-2024 winter-spring crop is expected to be bountiful, with an estimated rice yield of over 61 quintals/hectare across the province (equivalent to the 2022-2023 winter-spring crop, and Hai Lang district with an estimated yield of over 67 quintals/hectare); the total rice production is estimated at over 160,000 tons. Notably, the price of fresh rice at the beginning of the season fluctuated between 7,500 and 9,000 VND/kg, bringing joy and excitement to farmers.
The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Ha Sy Dong, requested the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hai Lang district, and other localities to actively support farmers in harvesting rice quickly and efficiently according to the plan, in order to organize the 2024 summer-autumn crop production as soon as possible; and to coordinate with units and businesses to guarantee the purchase of products from farmers. Farmers also need to proactively speed up the rice harvesting process in the fields, preserve and process the rice to ensure product quality.
