The library system in Lao Cai has been at the forefront of applying technology, especially in developing digital libraries and online learning tools.

Developing a reading culture on digital platforms is a key task. Currently, the unit has implemented a comprehensive set of digital platforms, such as the Digital Library, the Electronic Information Portal, the VietBiblio system - a shared solution for small and medium-sized libraries (commune-level libraries, ward-level libraries, and educational institutions), and social media channels. Through these platforms, users can search and access materials anytime, anywhere, contributing to improved access to knowledge quickly and conveniently.”
Knowledge has become more accessible to readers, contributing to positive changes in the habits of young people. Digitization has made it easier for people in remote areas to access materials, opening up endless learning opportunities. However, the Head of Technology and Communications, Bui Thi Lan Anh, also acknowledges that while young people are quickly adapting to smartphones and the internet, many older users still face barriers. Therefore, the provincial library's strategy focuses on supporting and guiding everyone to become digital citizens.
A prime example of this proactive spirit is Ma Thu Huong, a student majoring in Chinese Language at the Thai Nguyen University branch in Lao Cai province. Huong shared that she maintains the habit of going to the library every afternoon and combines it with listening to and reading books online to enrich her knowledge and thinking skills.
The shift in reading culture is becoming increasingly evident and vibrant in the school environment. Digital transformation here goes beyond simply "digitizing" books; it has become a driving force for creativity in teaching and learning.
In the school environment, the digital transformation of reading culture has become a driving force for creativity.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Trang, the librarian at Lao Cai High School, said: "The school is actively implementing innovative models such as 'Digital Library 4.0' and 'Smart Classroom Bookcases'. It is known that in the 2025-2026 school year, the school's digital library system has linked with the Provincial Library using VietBiblio software to update over 2,000 official books, including textbooks, reference books, and professional books."
Key statistics from Lao Cai High School: 100% of teachers participate in utilizing the platform. 500 students use it regularly. >300 cross-school uses (resource linkage with Cam Duong High School and the Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities).
In the context of the information explosion, young people in Lao Cai not only read but also intelligently adapt their approach to information.
Nguyen Phuong Linh, a student in class 11A2, is a prime example of the shift towards multi-sensory experiences. Linh shared: "I am particularly impressed with audiobooks because of the convenience of being able to access the content anytime."
Notably, the way these young students search for and discuss books online is also flexible. Previously, Linh and a group of book-loving friends used TikTok to find and share short review videos from previous readers. However, after experiencing lessons from their teachers on applying artificial intelligence (AI) to learning and life, she switched to using this convenient tool to summarize book content concisely and effectively. Thanks to AI, she can easily determine whether a work suits her abilities and interests, and confidently share it with friends to spread her passion for reading.
Sharing the same viewpoint, Nguyen Manh Hung, a student in class 12A2, emphasized the importance of self-reliance. Facing the problem of fake news, Hung stressed the principle of only seeking out official, verified digital resources.
In addition, Hung also shared his secret to maintaining focus in the era of booming social media. The student said that he often prioritizes using reading apps that integrate features to block social media notifications or set a "do not disturb" mode. Thanks to this, the process of acquiring knowledge is continuous and not distracted by external factors.
Nguyen Manh Hung, a student in class 12A2 at Lao Cai High School, said:
Digital transformation of libraries and the promotion of reading culture is not about eliminating the old, but about continuing and elevating knowledge through technology. When every citizen becomes a "smart reader," knowledge will truly become an inexhaustible source of information that drives socio-economic development.
