Living sustainably and being mindful of environmental protection has become a shared ideal for the couple. "We decided to move in together after three years of being together, and you could say we're a couple who found love thanks to our shared love for the environment," Bá An smiled.
From an environmental campaign
The story of Bao Vy and Ba An began with the 4th "Clean Up Vietnam" campaign in December 2022 by the Green Community of Vietnam. This activity attracted thousands of volunteers to pick up trash and clean up the environment on a nationwide scale.
At that time, Ba An was the coordinating leader at the Ho Chi Minh City headquarters, in charge of communications and program organization. Because the campaign was nationwide, the workload was intense, and An had almost no time to rest in his role as overall coordinator.
At that time, Bao Vy was a third-year student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry. She learned about the program through a volunteer recruitment post on social media, and it was also her first time participating in a large-scale environmental campaign.
Vy recounted that she was very excited when she registered, but hesitated closer to the date because of the need to wake up at 4 am, yet she still went in the end. "That decision led to me meeting my other half," Vy laughed.
Their love story is a perfect example of "a small moment, a big connection." During the event, Ba An needed to take photos with the sponsor, so he asked a volunteer nearby to hold his documents for him. Vy held the documents and waited for a while, but An didn't return. Fearing he might have forgotten, she went to find him to return them.
After the campaign, Ba An received many more friend requests on social media from volunteers, and Vy was one of those new friends. The girl initiated the message, starting with a birthday wish, which Ba An said was the first time the two of them truly connected.

A shared love for the environment
The workload at Green Community Vietnam was quite heavy, so Ba An asked Vy to help with the organization. From a volunteer, Vy gradually became a core member, in charge of logistics, which are essential for every program. While Ba An took the lead in communication, networking, and coordination, Vy stepped back to take care of small details such as water, equipment, and manpower allocation to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Vy said that An works very clearly, sometimes quite seriously and demandingly, and at first, Vy found him a bit "cold." However, after working with him for a while, she realized he was very responsible and always quietly cared about everyone. Their contrasting personalities actually complemented each other in many activities across the country, from a few dozen to large campaigns involving thousands of volunteers. And so, their love for each other grew.
The most memorable experience was the campaign at Can Gio beach. Five core members had to ensure all organizational aspects were handled for 40 volunteers.
Everyone worked so hard that Vy fainted near the end of the program. Ba An said he was really worried at the time because "it wasn't just about worrying for a volunteer, but about something much bigger than that."
Luckily, Vy received first aid and, after resting for a while, was able to continue her work. These small incidents became the catalyst that bonded the two friends, drawing them closer together. Then, many people in the Green Vietnam Community learned about their story and together nurtured their personal love within a shared love of action for the environment.
Some people initially joined out of curiosity but later realized the meaning of the activity and returned to become involved. These two young people said that the greatest value of each campaign doesn't lie in cleaning up an area, but in the change in community awareness that begins with that small action.
Going to pick up trash and "finding" each other.
After three years together, Bao Vy and Ba An decided to get married. They held their wedding this past March, which is also Youth Month – a peak month for young people with many community activities they pursue. For them, it's not just a personal milestone but also a continuation of their shared journey.
The couple chose wedding photoshoot outfits that were the same red and yellow flag shirts and checkered scarves that represent the colors of the Vietnam Green Community, where they first met. Bá An said that perhaps the things they both did together "brought them together." Bảo Vy jokingly added, "If we hadn't woken up early to participate that day, we probably wouldn't have met today." They both quipped, "We went picking up trash and 'found' each other."
