Newcastle had a disappointing performance against West Ham.

Before the match, coach Nuno Espirito Santo's team was ranked 19th and had not won a single home game this season. Meanwhile, Newcastle - who had won four of their last five visits to London Stadium - were expected to easily take all three points. But the reality was completely different.

In the 4th minute, Jarrod Bowen hit the post, and a few dozen seconds later, Newcastle counterattacked quickly, Bruno Guimaraes assisted Jacob Murphy to open the score. However, the early loss did not make West Ham fall. In the 35th minute, Lucas Paqueta fired a classy long-range shot to equalize 1-1, opening up a completely different game.

Just before half-time, luck smiled on the home side when Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross found Sven Botman in an own goal, giving the Hammers a 2-1 lead. In the second half, Newcastle dominated possession but looked harmless. The visitors only created 0.54 expected goals (xG) despite dominating the majority of the attack.

As the match entered the 9th minute of injury time, West Ham launched a finishing blow from a counter-attack. Bowen shot from a one-on-one position that goalkeeper Pope could not hold, and Tomas Soucek swooped in to score the rebound to seal a 3-1 victory for West Ham.

West Ham's first home win in nine months saw them jump to 18th place with seven points, rekindling their hopes of staying up. Newcastle, on the other hand, have plummeted to the bottom half of the table.

With Paqueta shining, Soucek and Bowen finding their form, West Ham fans have every right to believe that the night at the London Stadium could be the start of a revival for the rest of the season.
