Newcastle delivered a disappointing performance against West Ham.

Before the match, Nuno Espirito Santo's team was ranked 19th and had yet to win a home game this season. Meanwhile, Newcastle – who had won 4 out of their last 5 away games at London Stadium – were expected to easily secure 3 points. But the reality was quite the opposite.

In the 4th minute, Jarrod Bowen's shot hit the post, and a few dozen seconds later, Newcastle launched a lightning-fast counter-attack, with Bruno Guimaraes assisting Jacob Murphy to open the scoring. However, the early goal did not break West Ham. In the 35th minute, Lucas Paqueta unleashed a superb long-range shot to equalize 1-1, completely changing the dynamics of the game.

Just before the end of the first half, luck smiled on the home team when Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross led to Sven Botman's own goal, giving the Hammers a 2-1 lead. In the second half, Newcastle dominated possession but proved ineffective. The visitors only created 0.54 expected goals (xG) despite dominating attack.

In the ninth minute of added time, West Ham delivered the finishing blow from a counter-attack. Bowen's shot from a one-on-one situation left goalkeeper Pope unable to hold on, and Tomas Soucek pounced on the rebound to seal a 3-1 victory for West Ham.

West Ham's first home win in nine months propelled them to 18th place with seven points, rekindling their hopes of avoiding relegation. Newcastle, on the other hand, plummeted into the bottom half of the table.

With Paqueta shining brightly, and Soucek and Bowen rediscovering their form, West Ham fans have reason to believe that the night at London Stadium could be the start of a resurgence for the remainder of the season.
