Nga Son - The land rising from the marine economy

Favored by nature with a geographical position as the "hinge" of the North Central Coast region; but in recent years, Nga Son, as well as other localities of Thanh Hoa province and the whole country, have been facing many difficulties due to epidemics, world economic recession, climate change, fluctuations in fuel prices, unstable agricultural markets, etc., which have greatly affected production and business activities and people's lives in the area.

However, with the efforts, proactiveness, creativity, proposing appropriate solutions, overcoming difficulties, and high determination to carry out the tasks of the entire political system, business community and people of all walks of life in the district, in 2023, the socio-economic, educational, defense and security sectors in the district still achieved many positive results and created a premise for development in the following years. According to the assessment of the District People's Committee, in 2023, the whole district had 3/24 targets achieved and 18/24 targets exceeded the set plan.

As a locality that is always creative and a pioneer in applying science and technology in agricultural production, Nga Son is one of the districts with the largest area of net houses and greenhouses in the province. High-tech agricultural production brings stability and high economic value to Nga Son agriculture. The value of agricultural production in 2023 increased by 4.8% over the same period in 2022. The OCOP agricultural product program for each commune continues to be implemented well. Up to now, the whole district has had 37 products recognized as OCOP products.

Regarding aquatic exploitation, Nga Son currently has 169 vessels imported into the national fisheries system, with no fishing vessels violating illegal fishing (IUU). In 2023, the aquaculture area of the whole district will reach 1,800 hectares. The total output of exploited and farmed aquatic products is estimated at 13,843.5 tons, equal to 103.7% over the same period.

In the last days of the year, Nga Son fishermen are still busy preparing shipments to all over the country. In particular, Hoi Dao ferry in Nga Tien commune, which is the place to buy aquatic and seafood products for fishermen in the district and neighboring Hau Loc district, is also quite busy.

Ms. Le Thi Tuyet, a merchant at Hoi Dao ferry, happily said: Although this year the economy is difficult and there are many disadvantages, fishermen in the area still maintain aquaculture areas and regularly supply her family with about 50 tons of various types of seafood such as blood cockles, mussels, clams, and button clams every day. Therefore, the lives of fishermen in the area are stable and increasingly prosperous. She supplies these products to domestic lobster farming areas such as Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen.

With the advantage of a land rich in potential, Nga Son is a destination for many domestic and foreign investors. In 2023, the estimated investment capital mobilized was 3,604 billion VND, reaching 180.2% of the plan. Large investment projects were started such as: Renovation and upgrading of Provincial Road 524, Nga Son district; Some projects were put into use in 2023 such as: Nga Thien commune clean water plant, Nga Son District Party Committee Office; District General Hospital, ... Many important construction investment projects were deployed in the district, including the project of Outdoor Gear Vietnam sports equipment factory in Nga Truong commune, with a capital of 37 million USD.

According to comrade Thinh Van Huyen, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nga Son district, the above remarkable achievements were achieved thanks to the solidarity and consensus of the Party Committee, the government and all cadres and people in the district, combining and promoting the strength of great national solidarity, overcoming difficulties, exploiting the potential and advantages of the district. In the coming time, the district will take advantage of the support of the Central Government and Thanh Hoa province, strive to promote investment attraction; develop agricultural production in the direction of high technology associated with new rural construction. At the same time, with the development of industry and handicrafts; promote the development of services and tourism associated with urban development, constantly improve and enhance people's lives, aiming to make Nga Son one of the districts with fast and sustainable socio-economic development in Thanh Hoa province./.
