According to the inventory and classification of historical relics, there are currently more than 160 religious and belief-related places of worship (communal houses, temples, pagodas, etc.) in the province. Besides these religious relics, the province currently hosts approximately 280 festivals, including many traditional festivals with distinctive religious elements such as the Ky Cung - Ta Phu Temple Festival, the Bac Le Temple Festival, the Tam Thanh Pagoda Festival, and the Long Tong Festival… attracting a large number of tourists from within and outside the province, especially during the Lunar New Year.
The gathering of large crowds, the burning of incense and votive paper during festivals poses many risks of fire and explosions. Ms. Pham Tuyet Le, the head priestess of Ky Cung Temple, said: "During the festival season, the number of visitors to the temple is very large. Therefore, ensuring fire safety is our top priority. We regularly coordinate with the fire police and the ward police to inspect the fire-fighting equipment at the temple; post information and regulations on fire safety and disseminate reminders through the public address system about ensuring security and order, fire safety, and guiding visitors to burn incense and votive paper in the designated areas."
To ensure fire safety during the 2026 festival season, starting in December 2025, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police issued a plan for a high-intensity campaign to ensure fire safety at major political and cultural events and spring festivals in the province.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Tuong, Deputy Head of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department, said: In implementing the plan, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police force has conducted inspections of 120 establishments with high fire and explosion risks and 34 locations hosting political and event activities in the area. Especially on the days of major festivals, the unit proactively coordinates with local authorities to develop plans for assigning personnel and equipment to be on standby for firefighting and rescue operations.
In conjunction with relevant authorities, to ensure the safety of residents and tourists visiting during the spring festival, the communes and wards of the province have also implemented comprehensive safety measures such as: focusing on propaganda, inspection, and guidance for officials, caretakers of historical sites, temples, pagodas, and visitors to strictly comply with fire safety regulations; requiring management boards of historical sites, temples, and pagodas to strictly adhere to regulations on electricity usage, incense burning, and votive paper burning; and organizing businesses and service providers at religious establishments to sign commitments to strictly comply with fire safety regulations...
Mr. Nguyen Truong Giang, Vice Chairman of the Tan Thanh Commune People's Committee, said: "The Bac Le communal temple in the commune receives approximately 400,000 visitors annually. To proactively prevent fires and explosions and ensure the safety of residents and tourists visiting and worshipping, the commune government has established a Fire Prevention and Rescue Steering Committee to advise and organize the implementation of legal regulations on fire prevention and control. Accordingly, during the Lunar New Year and the spring festival season of 2026, the commune's Fire Prevention and Rescue Steering Committee coordinated with relevant units and functional forces to inspect fire safety at religious establishments and festival venues; strengthened direct reminders and disseminated information through the public address system on fire prevention and control regulations; and guided residents and tourists to properly dispose of incense sticks and burn votive paper in designated areas."
From now until the end of January, many festivals will continue to take place throughout the province, attracting large numbers of locals and tourists from all over. To ensure fire safety at historical sites, temples, and pagodas, in addition to the decisive involvement of functional forces and local authorities, each citizen and tourist needs to raise their awareness and responsibility in fire prevention and control, proactively preventing accidents and incidents, contributing to ensuring that the 2026 festival season is safe and joyful.
