Develop skills starting from the summer days.
From mid-June, the playground of Kindergarten No. 9 (Lam Vien Ward - Da Lat ) is once again filled with the joyful laughter of children. After a few days of summer vacation, many children are happy to see their teachers and friends again; some children, attending class for the first time, are still a little shy, clinging to their parents' arms.
According to teacher Pham Thi Hoa, the teacher in charge of kindergarten class 4, summer activities at the school do not focus heavily on academic knowledge but mainly on helping children develop good habits and age-appropriate skills. Children are introduced to poetry, stories, and letters through games and experiential activities; at the same time, they practice self-care skills such as eating, personal hygiene, greeting, and communicating with friends. “Children who participate in summer activities tend to adapt more quickly when the new school year begins. They become familiar with the classroom environment, the teacher, and the routines, so accessing the main curriculum is also easier,” Ms. Hoa said.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong, Principal of Kindergarten No. 9, said that the school currently accepts more than 220 children of various ages based on the voluntary registration of parents. From June 15th to August 15th, the school will arrange for teachers and staff to organize activities for caring for, nurturing, playing with, and educating children in accordance with regulations.

According to the summer activity plan, children participate in rhythmic gymnastics, art activities, experiential learning, and talent development suitable for their age. The school places special emphasis on developing self-care skills, daily routines, and ensuring absolute safety for children throughout their participation in summer activities. “The school absolutely does not teach ahead of the curriculum. The main goal is to help children have a fun and safe summer , while also developing the necessary skills before entering the new school year,” Ms. Phuong emphasized.
Partnering with parents
Not only Kindergarten No. 9, but many other preschools in the province also organize summer programs to accept children.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Han, a parent whose child attends Hoa Buoi Kindergarten (Bac Gia Nghia ward), shared that both she and her husband work, so they often face difficulties in looking after their child during summer vacation. “The grandparents live far away, so we often have to take the child to work. Since the school started accepting children during the summer, the family feels much more at ease. The child gets to play with friends and has a better routine instead of staying home watching phones or TV,” Ms. Han said.
In reality, summer childcare programs not only meet parents' needs for childcare but also contribute to ensuring a safe environment for children during the summer break. Schools develop specific plans, publicly disclose the activities, and organize registration for parents on a voluntary basis and by mutual agreement.

To ensure quality care, schools arrange teaching staff on a rotational basis, meeting both parental needs and ensuring teachers' summer vacation. Activity content is also tailored to each age group. Nursery and kindergarten children focus on familiarizing themselves with the environment and developing life skills; preschool children engage in increased physical activity and experiential learning; and kindergarten children are encouraged to develop independence, communication skills, and self-confidence before entering primary school.
Following the direction of the education sector, localities develop plans to organize summer activities that suit their actual conditions, ensuring school safety, food safety, and accident and injury prevention for children. With thorough preparation from schools and the support of parents, summer classes help children both have fun and develop skills, ready to enter the new school year with confidence and enthusiasm.
