HNN - In late May, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City organized the "Month of Listening to the People" Forum 2026 with the theme "Environment and Urban Civilization". This is a practical step to concretize the resolutions of the Party congresses at all levels, promote the direct ownership rights of the people, and focus strongly on the grassroots level to build a sustainably developing Hue city.

The Resolution of the 17th Congress of the Hue City Party Committee clearly defines the viewpoint: "Using development to ensure stability, and stability to promote rapid and sustainable development, improving the material and spiritual lives of the people…". Imbued with the idea of "being close to the people," the "Month of Listening to the People" forum has created a democratic discussion space where the people are truly at the center and public authorities play the role of listening and creating.

The forum's preparation process demonstrated its significant appeal and influence, with the City Front compiling over 40 questions and suggestions from the grassroots. At the forum, the dialogue was lively and responsible, with many direct contributions. The questions directly addressed pressing issues affecting people's lives, falling into three main categories: waste management, drainage, and green spaces; urban traffic, social order and safety; and land clearance and construction of key projects.

With a proactive and open-minded approach, leaders of departments and agencies directly explained and provided specific solutions and timelines for each issue. Regarding residents of Phu Xuan ward's complaints about traffic congestion at the Dong Ba gate and encroachment on the railway corridor along Le Duan street, a representative from the Department of Construction stated that the authorities have agreed on a traffic diversion plan through the Trai gate (opened from May 30, 2026), and will also implement a project connecting Thai Phien street to Dinh Tien Hoang street to alleviate traffic pressure.

Regarding the prolonged delays in the Vy Da Bridge upgrade and expansion project, which have caused public outrage, authorities have announced: A decision has been officially issued to terminate the contract with the contractor, Hoa Binh 479 Joint Stock Company, which seriously violated the project schedule; procedures are currently being urgently completed to replace the contractor with a new one to ensure the project's progress.

They also pledged to intensify the "Not Alone - Together Safe Online" campaign and diversify the "5 Don'ts, 2 Musts" awareness campaign (don't engage in online activities, don't be greedy, don't befriend scammers, don't transfer money, don't invest; be constantly vigilant, and report immediately to the police) to every neighborhood and school to protect citizens from the pitfalls of cyberspace.

"Don't let legitimate opinions be silenced."

The greatest success of the 2026 "Month of Listening to the People" forum lies not only in the number of questions answered, but also in the strong reinforcement of the people's trust in the Party committees and government. After nearly a year of operating the two-tiered local government system, the forum has affirmed its correctness in creating a mechanism for direct supervision, helping to resolve many bottlenecks in mechanisms and policies in a timely and reasonable manner.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Nam, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City, affirmed: "The 'Month of Listening to the People's Voices' forum is not just a formality; we listen and then forget about it. We believe that the post-implementation monitoring of the resolution of petitions is the measure of leadership effectiveness. The city's Fatherland Front is determined to seriously implement the directive of General Secretary and President To Lam: 'We will not let the Fatherland Front's petitions remain merely reports, and we will not let the legitimate opinions of the people fall into silence.' After this program, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City will compile all opinions and forward them to the City People's Committee and relevant authorities; at the same time, we will closely monitor and supervise the implementation process to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the people. We will expand this model simultaneously across all 40 communes and wards of the city in the near future."

The forum's results show that, from specific tasks such as the Department of Science and Technology's plan to reorganize 19km of telecommunications cables using suspension clamps in 2026, to the Department of Agriculture and Environment's installation of surveillance cameras to monitor illegal waste disposal in the An Cuu market area, all are committed to with clear figures and timelines.
