- Technology and infrastructure are needed to develop the aquaculture industry.
- Bac Lieu City: Research and development of a "marine farming" program is needed.
Cage fish farming at the foot of Hon Chuoi Island is proving effective, continues to expand, creates jobs, develops the economy for fishermen on the island, and contributes to the growth of the local fisheries industry.
To date, in the Hon Chuoi Island area (Song Doc commune), there are 36 households raising fish in cages with 87 rafts/290 cages. Among them, there is one cooperative with 8 members and 40 cages.
In most cage farming of grouper, feed is made from recycled fish waste, reducing costs and increasing profits.
The cage fish farming model has proven effective and is being replicated in the coastal area of Hon Da Bac (Da Bac commune). Mr. Huynh Tan Kiet, Director of Quyet Tam Cooperative (Kinh Hon Bac hamlet, Da Bac commune), is delighted that the fish he raised (grouper, snapper) have reached a suitable size and are developing quite well after more than 4 months. “The marine environment here is very suitable for raising fish in cages. The fish grow quickly and are less prone to disease, so the potential for profit after 9-10 months of farming is quite high,” Mr. Huynh Tan Kiet shared.
Cage fish farming is gradually developing along the coast of Hon Da Bac. This aquaculture economic model needs to be linked with tourism , and many potentials require collaborative development.
Right along the river near the estuary, cage oyster farming is developing day by day, becoming a widely replicated economic model. Currently, the province has 1,196 cages with 1 cooperative and 24 households, totaling 13,075 m2 of farming area. Of these, the Dat Mui Cage Oyster Cooperative in Lach Vam hamlet (Dat Mui commune) has 1,000 cages/22 rafts, totaling 8,000 m2; the expected harvest is 250-300 tons/year. The remaining 24 households have 196 cages, totaling 5,075 m2; the expected yield is approximately 70-80 tons/year.

With its proximity to the sea, large rivers, and abundant alluvial soil, and with water transport becoming increasingly limited due to road development, oyster farming in cages is developing quite rapidly in Phan Ngoc Hien commune.
With the goal of strengthening the management, protection, and sustainable development of aquatic resources, the Provincial People's Committee has just issued a plan to implement the Program for the Protection and Development of Aquatic Resources in the province for the period 2026-2030, with many synchronized and comprehensive tasks and solutions. This plan emphasizes building a stable, efficient, climate-adaptive, and internationally integrated fisheries sector, particularly continuing to implement projects assessing the current environmental status of coastal and island areas to further develop the aquaculture industry in a stable and sustainable manner.
