The wife of singer Tuan Phong said that he suffered a stroke during the Covid-19 pandemic. The aftereffects affected his brain, causing a decline in his language abilities. Later, he fell, breaking three ribs, and was bedridden. He passed away on November 10th after a long period of treatment.

The artist's wake will be held at the funeral home of Thong Nhat Hospital (Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City), the memorial service will take place on the morning of November 13th, followed by cremation at Binh Hung Hoa crematorium.

The news has saddened many of his colleagues and students. Artist Ta Minh Tam, former Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, said that the singer's health had deteriorated over the years due to several underlying illnesses. According to Ta Minh Tam, Tuan Phong was one of the outstanding lyrical and revolutionary singers of the 1980s and 1990s.

"His high tenor voice and refined technique helped him succeed in the realm of love songs, especially the compositions of musician Phan Huynh Dieu. He got along well with his colleagues and was loved by younger generations and students because he always supported them," said Ta Minh Tam.

Singer Tuan Phong was born in Hanoi , the eldest of five siblings. From a young age, he inherited a love of art and literature from his father, who worked at the National Library of Vietnam.

In the 1990s, he made his mark with a series of lyrical songs such as "Love Poem at the End of Autumn," "Sound of Autumn," "Where Is That Person Now," and "Evening Longing." One of the songs that many people remember when mentioning him is "Boat and Sea" (music: Phan Huynh Dieu, lyrics: Xuan Quynh).

During his lifetime, the composer considered Tuan Phong to have the most successful renditions of his compositions. "If Pham Duy had Thai Thanh, Trinh Cong Son had Khanh Ly, I had Tuan Phong," Phan Huynh Dieu once said.

The artist was formerly the Deputy Head of the Vocal Department at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music and was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist in 1996. He also writes poetry, commentary, and is a familiar voice reciting poetry on Ho Chi Minh City Television.
