Artist Xuan Hinh said he was happy and had many new experiences while filming the movie "The Scent of Pho," which will be released in theaters during Tet next year.
He finished filming the movie before the Lunar New Year, but needs to add some scenes soon. The actor plays a pho restaurant owner who wants to preserve the values of traditional cuisine and culture. Thu Trang plays the daughter-in-law. The artist did not reveal the character's personality, only saying: "Audiences will see Xuan Hinh from beginning to end when they go to the cinema."
With filming schedules lasting from morning until late at night for a month and a half, he said he was constantly stressed. However, the team's work ethic and meticulousness energized him. Besides promoting the beauty of pho, he also performed some traditional Vietnamese folk songs like cheo and chau van. The comedian said: "I performed carefully and wholeheartedly to capture beautiful footage. If the audience likes and appreciates it, I will consider acting in one feature film each year."
For many years, Xuan Hinh received countless offers to act in films but refused them, as he was only used to performing on stage. Director and producer Minh Beta persuaded him: "I have this script that has been revised many times. If you don't act, I can't film it either." Sensing the producer's dedication and perfectionism, Xuan Hinh agreed. He didn't prioritize the remuneration when participating, because he acted in the film with the intention of promoting the cultural values of the nation.
The filming location for the pho restaurant in Nam Dinh lasted about 20 days, then moved to scenes in Hanoi's Old Quarter and the Mother Goddess Museum, owned by artist Xuan Hinh. Other participants included Thanh Thanh Hien, Quoc Tuan, Thu Huong, and child actor Tran Bao Nam.
Recently, after participating in Hoa Minzy's viral music video "Bac Bling," the artist said he received many collaboration offers from young singers. He said he is carefully considering projects that are "suitable and unique" to participate in.
Xuan Hinh is hailed by audiences as the "King of Comedy in Northern Vietnam," but he often refers to himself as a "folk comedian." His name is associated with many traditional Cheo melodies, Quan Ho folk songs, Xam songs, and Chau Van songs. The artist is best remembered for his works such as "Thi Mau Goes to the Pagoda," "The Fortune Teller Goes to the Market," and "Man and Horse, Horse and Man."
He was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist in 1997. The artist built a 5,000 m2 Museum of Mother Goddess Worship in Soc Son, Hanoi , displaying paintings related to Mother Goddess worship, horizontal plaques and couplets, scarves, clothing, and mats from the past so that "young people, when they see them, will love our national culture even more."
