According to Ms. Phuong, she initially only made cakes for her children to eat and then posted pictures on social media. Thanks to the beautiful designs that suited consumer tastes, many customers ordered online, especially during holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), birthdays, etc.
At times, when the number of orders increased significantly, she had to work late into the night to meet customer deadlines. “I started selling cakes online and preparing ceremonial offerings in 2023. Although it’s quite hard work, it provides me with an extra income and I get to do what I love, so I feel very happy,” Ms. Phuong shared.
Besides personal hobbies, many young people turn their professional knowledge into effective part-time jobs. Ms. Le Thi Phuong Thao (born in 1997) is currently a midwife at Bac Ninh General Hospital No. 1 (Bac Giang Ward). In addition to her work at the hospital, she provides postpartum care for mothers and babies at home. With her professional knowledge and practical experience, Ms. Thao assists families in caring for postpartum health, providing guidance on newborn care skills, bathing babies at home, etc.
This service is a popular choice among young families. The cost of bathing a newborn ranges from 90,000 VND to 250,000 VND per session. Ms. Thao said: “The postpartum period is a time when many mothers are still unfamiliar with the process, especially first-time mothers. I want to use my knowledge to support families and earn some extra income at the same time.” To make her service more widely known, she regularly posts videos of her work on her personal Facebook page. As a result, many families have learned about and trusted her service.
In recent years, side hustles have become a popular choice for many young people. While previously, part-time work was mainly seasonal, now many people utilize their skills, talents, or expertise to create a stable source of additional income. From livestreaming sales and restoring old photos to pet care, many young people can earn anywhere from a few million to tens of millions of VND per month.
Increase your income.
With the development of society, many new professions have emerged, reflecting a change in the career mindset of today's youth. Instead of relying entirely on fixed jobs, many people are proactively seeking additional sources of income. Livestream selling is one of the fields that attracts a large number of young people.
| For a side hustle to develop sustainably, individuals need to invest seriously in skills, maintain credibility, and strike a reasonable balance between their main job and part-time work. With the right direction, a side hustle is not only a solution for increasing income but also opens up opportunities for young people to develop in the digital world. |
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Hoa, from Tam Tien commune, is currently an office worker. Since 2024, she has been researching how to sell household goods and clothing on Facebook and TikTok. She spends time watching online sales tutorials, learning how to livestream, take product photos, and interact with customers.
Initially, she only sold to friends and acquaintances, but thanks to consistent sales, Ms. Hoa's customer base has steadily grown. On average, her online sales business brings her an additional 5 million VND per month.
“To start the business, I spent 2 million VND on lighting, a phone holder, and a microphone for livestreaming. I think this job, if done seriously, can definitely be developed long-term. The most important thing is maintaining credibility with customers through product quality, service, and reasonable prices. When customers trust me, they will come back and recommend me to others,” Ms. Hoa shared.
Alongside the positive aspects, the trend of taking on side jobs also raises some concerning issues. Many people get caught up in the cycle of extra work, leaving them with no time for rest. If they don't balance work and life, it can easily affect their health.
Recently, there have been instances of some online sellers making false advertisements, selling low-quality goods, and chasing engagement with offensive and unverified content. This negatively impacts the online business environment and erodes consumer trust.
