The determination of union members to strive for success.

Coming from modest family finances, many of the students work part-time while studying to cover some of their educational expenses and lessen the financial burden on their families. Despite this, they always strive to excel in their studies and actively participate in Youth Union activities.

"Outstanding Students"

In his first year of college, Duong The Bao, a student in the K13E Pharmacy program at Kien Giang Medical College, sought part-time work to help support his family. He started with jobs serving at cafes and restaurants, then moved on to part-time work for event organizing companies…

Although the job is unrelated to my major, it helps me gain more communication experience, teamwork skills, and, importantly, provides extra income to cover my living and study expenses.

"My family are farmers, and my parents work very hard to support my younger sister and me through school. Therefore, I take advantage of opportunities to work part-time to earn extra income to help my family and not waste time," said The Bao.

Despite working part-time, The Bao did not let it affect his studies and always achieved good results, becoming one of the outstanding students of the school. For two consecutive years, The Bao was classified as an excellent student and awarded a scholarship by the school. In the 2024-2025 academic year, The Bao received the "Excellent Student" title at the provincial level.

“To ensure my part-time job doesn't affect my studies, I manage my time effectively, studying during class, using my free time while working to review, and always maintaining self-discipline, prioritizing important tasks first. Achieving the 'Excellent Student' title makes me very happy; it's not only a recognition of my efforts but also a motivation for me to continue striving to improve and study better,” Thế Bảo shared.

Besides his admirable academic achievements, The Bao has always actively participated in activities and movements launched by the school's Youth Union. Currently, he is a member of the Executive Committee of the school's Youth Union and the Secretary of the Pharmacy College K13E Youth Union Branch. In the 2023-2024 academic year, The Bao participated in the volunteer summer campaign; participated in and encouraged Youth Union members to participate in competitions and contests organized by the school's Youth Union and the Provincial Youth Union, such as "My Favorite Book," "Golden Bell" legal knowledge contests, and campaigns to raise awareness about drug and prostitution prevention.

As a final-year student, The Bao is focusing on completing his coursework and gaining more practical experience. He hopes to find a job that matches his expertise after graduation so he can continue to develop himself and contribute to the community.

Self-funded education

With the desire to find a stable job soon to support herself, help her family, and reduce her educational expenses, after graduating from 9th grade, Duong Truc Thuy chose to study the 9+ college program in hotel management at Kien Giang Vocational College.

Coming from a disadvantaged family, with her father working as a laborer and her mother running a small business, Thuy proactively sought part-time jobs to help support her family from the moment she started school. To date, she has held various jobs such as marketing, online sales, working as a collaborator at a clothing store, serving at restaurants, and working as a receptionist. Currently, Thuy also participates with the Student Union in serving meals during breaks at conferences and events.

Through various part-time jobs, Thuy earns about 2 million VND per month. Although the amount is not large, it is enough for her to cover her personal expenses and reduce the burden on her family.

Thuy shared: “Thanks to my part-time job, I've been able to cover my study expenses for the past two years. I'm exempt from tuition and dormitory fees because I'm part of the dormitory management team, and I spend the rest of my time frugally. Earning my own money has made me understand my parents' hardships even more, and I'm working harder in my studies, hoping to find a stable job in the future.” These part-time jobs not only help Thuy cover her family's living expenses but also hone her communication skills and gain practical experience, creating opportunities for her to find a suitable job after graduation.

Despite dedicating a lot of time to part-time work, Thuy still maintains a good academic record. She is also actively involved in activities initiated by the University's Youth Union. Currently, Thuy is a member of the Executive Committee of the University's Youth Union and the Deputy Secretary of the Tourism Faculty's Youth Union. In her work with the Youth Union, Thuy actively participates in volunteer activities; regularly coordinates with the branches to implement activities such as "Saturday Volunteer Day," "Sunday Green Day," encourages members to participate in voluntary blood donation, legal knowledge competitions, and activities that foster student engagement…
