Being on par with "giants" like Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai , and Quang Ninh in attracting FDI capital is truly a remarkable achievement for Ninh Thuan.
This province has historically been ranked among the poorest in the country, with a dry and hot climate, barren land, and is sandwiched between two provinces that are far more developed in every aspect, Khanh Hoa and Binh Thuan . Therefore, not only I but many people in Ninh Thuan were astonished.
Transportation infrastructure, including highways, is one of the factors that helps Ninh Thuan attract strong FDI investment.
In the first nine months, Ninh Thuan attracted $1.005 billion in registered FDI capital, a 37-fold increase compared to the previous year! The question that immediately popped into my head was: What did Ninh Thuan do, and what conditions did it have to attract such a 37-fold increase in FDI capital? What opportunities did investors find here?...
It can be said that transportation infrastructure is the first factor. When the Cam Lam – Vinh Hao expressway was put into operation on April 30th, Ninh Thuan had 63km of expressway passing through it with 3 major interchanges: Du Long, Phan Rang and Thuan Nam.
In addition, there are many other connecting transportation projects, including a 14km road connecting the expressway and National Highway 1 to the Ca Na General Seaport. This "combination of land and water transport," mutually supporting each other, is a major advantage in logistics that not every province or city possesses.
Besides facilitating the transportation of goods, the improved road network also unlocks the unique tourism development potential of Ninh Thuan.
The world-class luxury resort complex Amanoi in Vinh Hy Bay – Nui Chua is one example. Many tourism real estate projects are currently underway in Ninh Thuan, involving major names like Vinpearl, T&T, Crystal Bay… and multi-billion dollar projects, promising to create numerous jobs.
Clean energy and renewable energy are among the key areas of development in Ninh Thuan province.
Ninh Thuan currently has 42 foreign-invested projects, of which 34 have already commenced operations with a total capital of nearly 1 billion USD. Large-scale projects are mainly concentrated in the fields of energy, renewable energy, and high-tech agriculture.
Regarding renewable energy, there's no question that Ninh Thuan is a clean energy kingdom, aiming for NetZero by 2050 and reaping significant benefits from selling carbon credits. State budget revenue from FDI in the 5 years from 2019 to 2024 reached over 2,000 billion VND, accounting for 8.7% of the province's total budget revenue.
The signals are very positive, but the people of Ninh Thuan are not easy to please. Mr. Nguyen Duc Du, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thanh Tin Technology Company, based in Phan Rang City, said: "Ninh Thuan now has favorable factors to attract investment and development compared to before. Being in the top 10 for FDI attraction is an honor. But maintaining that ranking is the real challenge. To maintain or improve our ranking, the most important factors are people and policies."
According to him, it is essential that the administrative system is transparent, dynamic, dedicated, professional, and responsive to the needs of citizens and investors. Furthermore, the determination and vision of government leaders in creating a favorable business environment are extremely important.
At a recently held scientific workshop on provincial planning, Mr. Nguyen Duc Thanh, Secretary of the Ninh Thuan Provincial Party Committee, clearly identified the importance of human resources: in addition to the three breakthroughs (improving competitiveness, perfecting infrastructure, and applying science and technology) and two driving forces (developing the marine economy and urban economy), the core of the province's development is its human resources.
Upon reflection, Ninh Thuan's inclusion in the top 10 provinces attracting FDI, alongside major players like Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai, is a truly impressive achievement. This serves as a clear message: If a poor province like Ninh Thuan can do it, other provinces can too, if they know how to combine opportunities and their own efforts.
