Taking advantage of the retreat, people, with the support of local authorities, organizations, functional forces, and vehicles, focused on overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, cleaning up mud, dirt, and garbage, cleaning houses and properties...

People in Tien Thanh village are still in shock over the historic flood that caused heavy property damage. Currently, the work to overcome the consequences of the flood is being urgently implemented but is extremely difficult because of the huge amount of mud and soil, so it will take many weeks to complete.

While cleaning up her belongings that were lying under the mud and trash, Ms. Tran Thi Le Hang (born in 1983, residing in Tien Thanh village) sadly said that the recent historic flood came so quickly and unexpectedly that no one had time to react. Luckily, she was only able to evacuate people to Pu Mat National Park safely and escape, but all of her belongings were damaged and swept away. After the flood receded, her house was covered in mud and trash, nearly a meter high, and many belongings were swept away by the floodwaters, causing damage of approximately 2 billion VND.

“My husband and I encouraged each other to borrow money from the bank to invest in business and open an electric bicycle and wooden furniture store on Highway 7, but now the flood has devastated our assets like this. It is so heartbreaking, we don’t know when we can make up for it. After the flood, the mud was layer upon layer, thick and everywhere, it will take at least 7 to 10 days to recover relatively... My husband and I are penniless, and we don’t know when we will be able to pay off the bank loan,” Ms. Hang cried.

About a few dozen steps from Ms. Hang's house, although the water has basically receded, the small house of Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc (born in 2003, residing in Tien Thanh village) is still surrounded by mud up to his knees, the marks of flood water and wetness are still clearly visible on the roof, brick walls... All the property in the house has been submerged or swept away by flood water.
According to Mr. Duc, the floodwaters came too suddenly, rising to historic heights, reaching the roof of the house. Fortunately, his family was able to evacuate to Pu Mat National Park in time to avoid the flood. After the flood, mud and dirt covered everywhere, from the house to the alley, trees, barns, gardens... it is not known when the restoration will be completed.

"Currently, my family cannot return home to live and must stay at a house in a higher area in the village; rice, food, and drinking water are all flooded and damaged by mud. Now, the most urgent thing for my family and the people in the flooded area is to receive support from the authorities and machinery to quickly overcome and clean up all the mud, garbage, and clean up the house environment. Next is support for food, necessities, and drinking water...", said Mr. Duc.

Leaving Duc's house, SGGP reporters went to the small house of Phan Cong Vien's family (born in 1983, residing in Tien Thanh village). In front of the house is National Highway 7, and behind is Ca River, so when the flood occurred, it caused heavy damage. When we arrived, the first image that caught our eyes was the scene of devastation from outside the house to inside. The mud was knee-deep, many brick walls had been washed away by floodwaters. Besides, all the family's furniture and property had been damaged by floodwaters and mud.

Although his body was soaked with water and covered in mud, his face was haggard and showed signs of exhaustion from having to be on duty and respond to the floods in the past days, Mr. Vien was still working with everyone to overcome and clear the mud to soon stabilize life.

Mr. Vien shared: "Since I was a child, I have never seen such a big flood. Almost all the houses in the village were severely damaged. Fortunately, the family with 2 small children was promptly taken to a safe shelter. Currently, after the flood, local people and relatives are coming to help the family clean up the mud. In the coming time, I really hope that all levels and the social community will pay attention, share and help the villagers and their families to quickly overcome the damage and stabilize their lives."

In an interview with SGGP reporter on the same evening, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Cuong Commune (Nghe An Province) said that immediately after the rain stopped and the flood receded, during the day, local authorities and organizations made efforts to help people overcome the damage, clean up mud, trash, and clean up the environment. In particular, in Tien Thanh village alone, in addition to local forces on site, there was timely support from about 60 people including the police force and the Military Command of Nghe An province. In the coming days, functional forces will continue to deploy support to help people overcome the damage to soon stabilize their lives.
