The residents of Tien Thanh village are still reeling from the historic flood that caused extensive property damage. Currently, post-flood recovery efforts are underway but are proving extremely difficult due to the enormous amount of mud and debris, requiring many weeks to complete.

While clearing away belongings buried under mud and debris, Ms. Tran Thi Le Hang (born in 1983, residing in Tien Thanh village) sadly recounted that the recent historic flood came too quickly and unexpectedly, leaving no one time to react. Fortunately, only a few people were evacuated to the safe Pu Mat National Park, while all other property was damaged or swept away. After the floodwaters receded, her house was covered in thick mud and debris, almost a meter deep, and many belongings were swept away by the floodwaters, causing damage estimated at approximately 2 billion VND.

“My husband and I encouraged each other to borrow money from the bank to invest in a business selling electric bicycles and wooden furniture along National Highway 7, but now the floods have destroyed our property like this. It's heartbreaking, and I don't know when we'll be able to make up for it. After the flood, layers upon layers of mud are thick and everywhere. It will take at least 7 to 10 days to recover relatively well… My husband and I are left with nothing, and we don't know when we'll be able to pay off our bank loan,” Ms. Hang sobbed.

Just a few dozen steps from Ms. Hang's house, although the water has mostly receded, the small house of Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc (born in 2003, residing in Tien Thanh village) is still surrounded by mud up to almost knee-deep, with the marks of floodwater and dampness still clearly visible on the roof and brick walls... All the belongings inside the house have been submerged or swept away by the floodwater.

According to Mr. Duc, the floodwaters came so suddenly, rising to a historical high, submerging the roof of his house. Fortunately, he was able to evacuate his relatives to Pu Mat National Park in time to escape the flood. After the flood, thick mud and debris covered everything, from the house to the alley, trees, livestock pens, and gardens... it is unknown when the damage will be repaired.

"Currently, my family cannot return home and has to stay with relatives in a higher area of the village; our rice, food, and drinking water are all submerged in water and mud, causing damage. Now, the most urgent need for my family and the people in the flooded area is to receive support from the authorities, including machinery, to quickly clean up all the mud, debris, and sanitize our homes. Following that, we need assistance with food, essential supplies, and drinking water…," Mr. Duc said.

Leaving Mr. Duc's house, the SGGP reporter went to the small house of Mr. Phan Cong Vien's family (born in 1983, residing in Tien Thanh village). The house faces National Highway 7 in the front and the Ca River in the back, so the flooding caused severe damage. Upon arrival, the first thing that struck us was the scene of devastation from the outside to the inside of the house. Mud was knee-deep, and many sections of brick walls had been knocked down by the floodwaters. Nearby, all the family's belongings and property had been damaged by the floodwaters and mud.

Despite being drenched in water and covered in mud, his face haggard and showing signs of exhaustion from days of being on duty and responding to the floods, Mr. Vien is still working with everyone to clear the mud and debris so that life can return to normal as soon as possible.

Mr. Vien shared: "From childhood until now, I've never seen such a large flood. Almost all the houses in the village suffered heavy damage. Fortunately, my family had two young children who were able to be taken to a safe shelter in time. Currently, after the flood, local people and relatives are coming to help my family clean up the mud. In the coming time, I sincerely hope that all levels of government and the community will pay attention, share, and help the people in the village and my family to quickly overcome the damage and stabilize our lives."

That evening, in an interview with a reporter from SGGP newspaper, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Cuong commune (Nghe An province), said that immediately after the rain stopped and the floodwaters receded, the local authorities and organizations made efforts to help people overcome the damage, clean up mud, debris, and sanitize the environment. In Tien Thanh village alone, in addition to the local forces, there was timely support from about 60 people, including the police and the Military Command of Nghe An province. In the coming days, the functional forces will continue to deploy support to help people overcome the damage and quickly stabilize their lives.
