According to Ms. Hoang Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Gio Viet commune, the entire commune has 128 fishing and aquaculture service vessels with a total capacity of 19,054 horsepower. From January 17th until now, local fishermen have had a bumper catch of yellowfin tuna, barramundi, etc. On average, each fishing trip (lasting from 1 to 3 days) yields 3 to 7 tons of fish per vessel. In particular, the offshore fishing vessels of fishermen Tran Hong Linh from Xuan Ngoc village and Le Van Anh from Xuan Loc village caught nearly 50 tons of yellowfin tuna during their fishing trip from January 18-19, 2024.

With selling prices of around 70,000 VND/kg for yellowfin tuna and 14,000-15,000 VND/kg for barracuda, fishermen have earned hundreds of millions of VND. In January 2024, Gio Viet commune's seafood production reached 300 tons.

Reportedly, due to the high demand for yellowfin tuna during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon - 2024, many people are still seeking to buy this type of fish despite its high price.
