Nearly 65 years ago, on August 28, 1959, the people of Tra Bong, of all ethnic groups, rose up in rebellion to seize power, initiating the armed struggle of the people of Southern Vietnam, unleashing a revolutionary torrent, and becoming a source of pride for the people of Quang Ngai and the entire country. Now, the younger generation is continuing this tradition of defiance, dedicating their efforts to building and developing a prosperous and beautiful Tra Bong.
Spreading the spirit of exemplary cadres who lead by example and set the first steps.
Following the policy of the Tra Bong District Party Committee, with the goal of focusing efforts on improving the lives of the people, leaders from the district to the communes, towns, and various departments and organizations have developed plans to stay close to the grassroots, proactively and actively approaching and handling issues, contributing to raising awareness and action, and linking the specific responsibilities of cadres and Party members to the lives of the people.
The district Party Committee considers this a mandate, never remaining indifferent to the people's circumstances; always instilling a pioneering and dedicated "youthful spirit" in every cadre and Party member, never giving up no matter how difficult the situation. Only in this way can we create motivation for all citizens to act together, overcome all difficulties and challenges, and trust in the Party's leadership. The new achievements and initiatives in the mountainous district of Tra Bong in recent times are breathing new life into the area, creating positive changes and spreading their influence.
In 2023, following the direction of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee, the Tra Bong District Party Committee launched the emulation movement to build "Four Good Party Branches" and "Four Good Grassroots Party Committees". The district has 53 grassroots Party organizations, and each year 53 new tasks are selected for implementation, with annual summaries, competitions, and awards.
In addition to implementing the "Four Goods" program, the Tra Bong Party Committee also selected specific themes, content, and areas for guidance; choosing difficult areas such as Hamlet 2, Tra Giang Commune to organize the launching ceremony and present the "Four Good Party Member" handbook, linking it with resolving outstanding issues and promptly addressing the difficulties faced by the people with the spirit: "The urgent task is for grassroots Party committees to clearly affirm their leadership role in resolving the difficulties and grievances of the people; each Party member must truly set an example, take the lead, and act first in order to promote the strength of national unity."
In Tra Thuy, a particularly disadvantaged commune with 98% of its population being of the Cor ethnic group, according to Party Secretary Le Anh Chien, the commune's Party Committee has implemented a model of "Building national unity and solidarity linked to the responsibilities and duties of Party members" in all 11 Party branches. Simultaneously, to help Tra Thuy overcome poverty, 137 Party members in the Party Committee must take the lead in economic development, actively encouraging their families and residents to focus on production and increase income. The goal for 2023 is to reduce the poverty rate according to the new standard to below 30%.
Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee Pham Minh Long expressed: Leaders must always lead by example to truly create motivation, "attract," and spread influence so that everyone, especially subordinates, will follow suit. Therefore, the actions of the Tra Bong District Party Committee in the past have created positive changes among cadres and Party members, building cadres who act for the people, not just talk or "talk a lot but do little." The Party will be strong when it is united with the people, because this unity will motivate cadres and Party members to constantly learn, research, and act in a way that truly lives up to the trust and expectations of the people.
According to Ho Thi Van, Head of the Tra Bong District Party Committee's Organization Department, the district Party Committee's policy is to resolutely implement and monitor the exemplary conduct of its officials. The District Party Committee has established inspection teams to assess the exemplary conduct of officials under the management of the District Party Committee Standing Committee. Through these inspections, strengths and weaknesses have been frankly identified, and solutions proposed to improve performance; effective evaluations have been conducted, and successful practices have been replicated. During monthly meetings with key officials, the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee provides assessments and feedback; those who perform well are praised, while those who do not perform well are clearly reminded of specific issues. Publicly pointing out shortcomings is a way to "train" officials to improve. As a result, the progress of work, the exemplary conduct of officials and Party members, especially leaders and key officials, has been significantly improved and made more substantial.
Secretary Dang Minh Thao informed: “Tra Bong continues to promote the assignment, decentralization, and delegation of authority to officials, localities, and units, linking it with the responsibility of the head of each organization. Focus on effectively implementing the breakthrough in setting a good example; key officials, in addition to their general responsibilities, will also take on one or two difficult, breakthrough tasks to accomplish.” Officials and civil servants must be ready to accept and successfully complete assigned tasks; they should not be selective about their positions, choosing easy tasks and avoiding difficult ones; they should be dedicated, conscientious, and exemplary in fulfilling their responsibilities and assigned duties; and they should not be caught up in "term-based thinking".
The fruits of consensus
Being close to the people and caring for their needs has created profound changes in awareness, becoming a powerful springboard for the rural areas of Tra Bong to rise up and completely change old ways of thinking. Civilized lifestyles are embraced, outdated customs are gradually pushed back, and beautiful traditional cultural values are preserved and continued.

Tra Phu commune is a pioneer in introducing new rice varieties to the fields.
According to Hoang Anh Ngoc, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the Tra Bong District People's Committee, the district Party Committee's policy on setting a good example has changed the mindset and working methods of officials, bringing about clear results. Through socio-economic development programs, infrastructure investment, and production support, it has contributed to creating livelihoods and increasing income for the people. To date, 100% of communes have concrete roads from the commune center to the district, 100% of villages have hardened roads leading to the commune, over 80% of households use clean water, and over 95% of households use the national power grid. As a result, the poverty rate among ethnic minorities in Tra Bong has decreased to 37% according to the new standard, with an average reduction of 4-5% per year.
In particular, Tra Bong is focusing on implementing three thematic resolutions of the District Party Committee: developing medicinal plant products, preserving culture, and urban development. Regarding the development of medicinal plants, in addition to cinnamon as the main crop, ginger cultivation continues to be expanded in Son Tra, Huong Tra, and Tra Tay communes. The entire district currently has 5,240 hectares of cinnamon and over 110 hectares of tea; promoting the development of several endemic medicinal plants such as Panax notoginseng, seven-leaf ginseng, lemongrass, Panax pseudoginseng, Codonopsis pilosula, Angelica sinensis, and Polygonum multiflorum. The Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee has allowed the use of the place name "Tra Bong" and confirmed the map delineating the production area for the registered trademark "Ginger Se". Notably, Tra Bong cinnamon has been granted a geographical indication registration certificate by the Intellectual Property Office ( Ministry of Science and Technology ).
Since the 24th District Party Congress (2020-2025 term), the district's economy has experienced high growth, with the economic structure shifting towards a gradual decrease in the proportion of agriculture and an increase in the proportion of industry and services. The average annual production value has increased by 14.85%. Tra Bong district is attracting investment in the Ngo Don 1 and 2 residential areas and the Doi Sim residential area; completing the revised general planning project for Tra Xuan town; and mobilizing resources to develop Tra Binh and Tra Phong communes to meet the criteria of a type V urban area .
In 2022 and the first six months of 2023, the district invested over 500 billion VND in the construction of 40 essential infrastructure projects; supporting people in stabilizing production, in accordance with the characteristics of ethnic groups and regions. The fields of health, education, and culture have seen positive changes; attention has been paid to preserving traditional values such as the Dien Truong Ba Festival, the Buffalo Sacrifice Ceremony, and the Nga Ra Tet Festival; 52 Gong and Cadhau dance troupes have been established... The Ca Dam and Thach Bich - Tra Binh eco-tourism resorts are being developed, attracting a large number of tourists.
Following Uncle Ho's teachings, firmly believing in the Party.
Comrade Ho Van Thinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Bong District, shared that the Cor people in this cinnamon-growing region are proud to bear the surname of President Ho Chi Minh, deeply grateful for the Party's contributions, and upholding and promoting the tradition of national unity. This spirit is evident in the cause of building and developing their homeland. Rising from hardship, on their journey forward, although many difficulties remain, with their revolutionary tradition and unwavering loyalty to the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the Cor people will never succumb to poverty.
In late June 2023, we traveled through the mountains to Tra Lanh commune, located south of Eo Chim mountain – a historical site associated with the Tra Bong Uprising. We met the village elder, Ho Van Bon. Seeing us from afar, he clasped our hands tightly, his expression a mixture of joy and sadness: “The Cor people in our village have changed so much. The officials are close to the people, caring for their needs, and I'm very happy.” In his small, newly built house, he respectfully placed a picture of President Ho Chi Minh on the altar, then carefully wiped away the dust from the picture with a cloth, gently placing it back on top of the cabinet. He lit three incense sticks with reverence, his voice resonating with the spirit of the mountains: “The Cor people are proud to bear the surname of President Ho Chi Minh. We are both proud and grateful from the depths of our hearts. Generations of Cor people, from one to the next, have always deeply cherished the sacred image of Him in their hearts.”

Tra Bong is seeing an increasing number of projects serving the ethnic minority communities in the highlands.
Not only the previous generation, but also the 80s and 90s generations of the Cor people today carry within them a sense of pride coupled with a great sense of responsibility in bearing the surname of President Ho Chi Minh. Among these young people, Comrade Ho Thanh Thuyen, Head of the Ethnic Affairs Department of the district, could not hide his emotion: “The Cor people have always regarded President Ho Chi Minh as a beloved father figure. That feeling is like Mount Ca Dam still standing tall amidst the clouds, and the Tra Bong forest still fragrant with cinnamon. The more proud we are of this, the more we, the younger generation, must constantly strive, hone our skills, and follow in the footsteps of our ancestors to shoulder the responsibility of building a prosperous and beautiful homeland.”
In the flow of time, the indomitable spirit of Tra Bong from the past, crystallized with the tradition of unity and absolute faith in the Party and President Ho Chi Minh of the Cor ethnic people, is continuing to write the glorious history of previous generations, creating a vibrant link between the past and the present; firmly believing in a creative and innovative Tra Bong.
Leaving Tra Bong, we were haunted by the image of lush green sprouts stretching across the mountains and forests. The remote villages high in the mountains of Ca Dam are transforming day by day. District Party Secretary Dang Minh Thao held my hand tightly, a promise imbued with faith and the aspiration for a better life in this heroic cinnamon land.
