Quang NamAfter receiving an increase in compensation, Mr. Tran Van Thu agreed to remove the barrier on Van Thi Thua street, Duy Xuyen district for nearly a year.
On January 10, Mr. Tran Van Thu said he had agreed to receive a resettlement plot of 1 m200, with the remaining nearly 2 m500 receiving compensation of 2 million VND/m2. "If I receive the money and the red book for resettlement, I will immediately demolish the barrier on Van Thi Thua street," Mr. Thu said.
Mr. Nguyen The Duc, Vice Chairman of Duy Xuyen district, said that this week the district will make a decision to recover land and compensate Mr. Thu's family, bringing Van Thi Thua route back to normal operation.
Van Thi Thua Street was completed in 2019, connecting National Highway 14H with Chu Van An Street, Nam Phuoc Town, Duy Xuyen District. The road is nearly one kilometer long, 11 meters wide, divided into two lanes, with thousands of motorbikes and cars circulating every day.
From February 2 until now, Mr. Tran Van Thu's family has used iron nets and tree branches to barricade across Van Thua Thi Street, preventing vehicles from passing. In the middle of the fence is a sign saying "Land has not been compensated, please go another way".
Due to the road being blocked for a long time, people opened a small path on the side of the road about 1,5 m wide for motorbikes and bicycles to pass. Cars and trucks have to detour more than 2 km.
Explaining the road fencing, Mr. Thu said that when opening Van Thi Thua street, the government recovered nearly 700 square meters of urban land from the family with a commitment of land for land, and after 2 months the land would be handed over. The family handed over the land for road construction, but has not yet received compensation.
At the end of 2022, the district announced a change of plan, from land for land to compensation of 200 m2, the remaining nearly 500 m2 was priced at one million VND per m2. Accepting resettlement land, but thinking that the compensation price of one million VND per m2 was too low compared to the market price (7-8 million VND m2), Mr. Thu's family did not agree.
Vice Chairman of Duy Xuyen district said the land exchange was against regulations. After review, the district discovered violations so it canceled previous decisions and proposed new plans.
