Residents are heartbroken over the slow progress of construction on National Highway 8C.
(Baohatinh.vn) - After a period of commencement, the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 8C, specifically the section between National Highway 8 and the Ho Chi Minh Highway (Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province), is progressing slowly, significantly impacting the lives of local people.

The project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 8C, the section from National Highway 8 - Ho Chi Minh Highway through Huong Son district, is 16.7 km long. The starting point is at Km90+600 – Linh Cam Bridge, in Son Long commune (Huong Son district), and the end point is at Km109+000 at Ngan Pho Bridge, in Son Trung commune (Huong Son district), intersecting with Ho Chi Minh Highway at Km774+125. The road runs along the Ngan Sau River, through rice fields and residential areas in the communes of An Hoa Thinh, Tan My Ha, Son Ninh, Son Trung, etc. The section passing through Son Ninh commune alone, with a total length of nearly 10km, was constructed by Thanh Huy Group Joint Stock Company. Along the route are residential areas with hundreds of households living in the villages of Trung Thi, Truong An, Tan Binh, Ninh Xa, Ngoc Tinh, Duong Dinh, Ha Tien, as well as administrative offices and schools. The project started in October 2023 and was scheduled to be completed by October 2025. However, the construction is still in disarray. The construction contractor is working slowly, forcing many households living next to National Highway 8C to put up tarpaulins and water the area to reduce the amount of dust entering their homes. Mr. Tran Dang Tiep, Commander of Thanh Huy Group Joint Stock Company, said: "To date, the project has only completed about 27% of its volume. The reasons for the delay are unfavorable weather conditions, limited land clearance, and a scarcity of raw materials (soil) for leveling. The construction unit is continuing to accelerate the progress to complete the project on schedule."
"Since the construction started, my family has had to constantly close our doors and put up tarpaulins to block out the dust. It's muddy when it rains, and incredibly dusty when it's sunny, so we have to water our houses regularly. We've been living with this polluted environment for months now, which is very inconvenient," said Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh from Ninh Xa village (Son Ninh commune), expressing his frustration. The family of Mr. Dang Hong Tuan in Ninh Xa village (Son Ninh commune) is also indignant because the construction contractor has completely blocked their access to their house for a long period. Vehicles need to be moved using planks or carried over to get into the house. Many households cover their homes well and water them regularly, but dust still accumulates inside. Also affected by thick dust and smog, residents of Duong Dinh village (Son Ninh commune) have to travel on a "miserable" road every day. The road is still under construction and rarely watered, so in hot weather, dust flies everywhere whenever a vehicle passes by.
"Traveling on this road makes me constantly anxious. I have to swerve or turn into small alleys whenever I encounter large, high-speed vehicles that obscure my vision with dust, in order to avoid traffic accidents. Every day on this road, items like my helmet, glasses, clothes, and motorbike are covered in white dust," complained Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc from Duong Dinh village (Son Ninh commune). Many businesses also have to close or slightly open their doors during the day to avoid dust. Along the route, several sections remain unfinished; the components intended for construction are scattered haphazardly. National Highway 8C, the section passing through Son Ninh commune, has a fairly high volume of traffic, and many households live along both sides of the road, so the slow progress of construction is causing frustration. The residents all hope that the construction unit will complete the project soon to ensure their livelihoods.
Through numerous meetings organized by the District People's Committee, the local authorities have expressed their strong desire for the construction units to expedite the project's progress to ensure its timely completion. However, due to various factors, the project's progress has not yet reached the target. We have requested the contractor to pay attention to and prioritize safety during construction and the well-being of the local people. In particular, during the rice harvest season, a convenient transportation system is crucial for transporting agricultural products.
