(CLO) With about a week left until Halloween, shops specializing in decorations on major streets in Ho Chi Minh City are overflowing with items for dressing up and creating spooky character costumes.

In recent years, Halloween (October 31st) has become increasingly popular and attracts the attention of many people in Vietnam. Currently, shops specializing in Halloween items on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street (District 1), Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Cao Thang (District 3), Nguyen Trai, Hai Thuong Lan Ong (District 5), Vo Van Ngan (Thu Duc District)... are overflowing with costumes and props for scary characters.

"I bought some items to decorate the company for Halloween. This year's designs are quite diverse and eye-catching, but the prices are higher than in previous years. Therefore, with a budget of about 3 million VND, I have to choose only the essential and suitable items," said Nguyen Quynh Hoa (27 years old).

Tran Kien Cuong, the owner of a shop on Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street, said: "This year, prices have increased by about 10% compared to last year. The Grim Reaper model, priced at 9 million VND, is the most expensive product my shop imports and sells, and we already have customers placing orders. The best-selling items are pumpkins, masks, and cloaks..."

Pumpkin-shaped lanterns are quite popular, priced from 20,000 to 70,000 VND depending on size. Oil lamp models are a new product for this year's Halloween season, with smaller ones costing 30,000 VND and larger ones costing 60,000 VND.

Pumpkins are an essential item in any Halloween setting. A set of six small pumpkins costs 235,000 VND. Large pumpkins cost around 600,000 VND each.

While decorative items appeal to adults, costumes attract children. Witch costumes of various sizes and colors are priced from 45,000 to 75,000 VND.

Ms. Thu Nhi, a shop owner on Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street, said that the number of customers each day is about 20-50 people, more than half less than last year. However, she predicts that the number of customers will increase again about 5 days before the holiday.

"In recent years, schools, especially international schools, have been very interested in organizing many events and costume contests for Halloween, so merchandise for this festival is also in high demand. The closer it gets to the holiday, the more bustling the buying and selling atmosphere becomes, especially on weekends," said Nhi.

Besides buying, many schools, organizations, or individual customers, including students, also rent costumes such as witch costumes and various masks to organize fun events.

Nguyen Duy Minh (a third-year student) shared: "This year we haven't bought toys early because the prices are higher than last year and the economy is difficult right now. We will wait until closer to the festival to buy them, hoping that the stores will offer discounts then."
