Despite a stable number of films, the box office revenue of horror movies this season hasn't been particularly outstanding. Specifically, the film "Cải mả" (The Grave Robber), while leading the Vietnamese box office for the three-day weekend, only reached 8.5 billion VND, bringing its total revenue to 11.9 billion VND (as of noon on November 3rd). According to Box Office Vietnam, despite its top ranking, the film faced controversy with many one-star reviews on ticketing platforms.

Despite topping the box office, the film "Cai Mo" also faced mixed reviews on social media.

The film "Haunted House" ranked 4th in weekend box office revenue with 1.7 billion VND. Directed by Truong Dung, the film faced mixed reviews due to its many vulgar and offensive dialogues. Meanwhile, "Tee yod 3: The Organ-Eating Demon," after its initial hype, has seen its revenue slow down to 817 million VND; while "The Pastor, the Shaman, and the Underworld Demon" has grossed 862 million VND. " Good Boy: Don't Be Afraid, My Dog," had a lackluster weekend with only 164 million VND.
Every year, horror films are a popular choice for audiences during Halloween. Many producers even choose this time to release horror projects, attracting viewers to theaters. However, this year, despite the diverse selection of films, box office revenue fell short of expectations. Besides quality issues, many believe that after the success of " Red Rain ," the Vietnamese cinema market has entered a slump, lacking vibrancy. Furthermore, in recent years, the influx of horror films, many of which are of poor quality, has led to audience saturation, creating a cautious attitude towards new horror releases.
"Although many horror films have been released, there hasn't been a significant investment in media promotion or a prominent director or actor to attract audiences to theaters. The second objective reason is that the weather over the past weekend wasn't very favorable for going to the cinema, which somewhat affected sales," said Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duong, representative of Box Office Vietnam.
