In Nhi Son commune, Mr. Thao Van Tho (60 years old), a Mong ethnic minority from Pa Hoc village, is known as a model individual in economic development, poverty alleviation, always dedicated to contributing to local development and maintaining unity within the community.

As an influential figure in Pá Hộc, Mr. Tho has actively propagated and encouraged villagers to boldly change their crop and livestock structures, and apply scientific and technological advancements to production to develop the economy and alleviate poverty. Mr. Tho shared: “To gain people's trust and support, first and foremost, I and my family must set a good example. Once people trust us, it becomes easier to promote and encourage their participation in various movements; even the biggest undertakings will receive their agreement and support.”

With a pioneering spirit, he boldly converted nearly 3 hectares of his family's hillside forestry land to cultivate stone peach trees, wild apples, and valuable medicinal herbs. Currently, his family owns 1.8 hectares of stone peach trees and over 1 hectare of wild apple trees. Taking advantage of the forest canopy, his family also cultivates medicinal plants such as cardamom, seven-leaf ginseng, and Ngoc Linh ginseng. Along with developing agriculture , he also invested in livestock farming and converted rice fields to cultivate high-value vegetables such as cucumbers and pumpkins, thereby creating a stable source of income for his family. Through farming and livestock raising, his family gradually accumulated capital and solid knowledge, with an average income of 100 million VND per year after deducting all expenses. This has helped his family achieve a comfortable and stable life.
Not only did Mr. Tho develop his own family's economy, but he also proactively guided and supported other villagers in developing their own economies. Mr. Tho's production not only helped his family escape poverty sustainably but also inspired the people of Pá Hộc village with a spirit of self-reliance, hard work, and production to develop their household economies. As a result, many families in Pá Hộc village have changed their mindset, boldly ventured into business, and gradually increased their income and stabilized their lives.
Not only is he a successful businessman, Mr. Thao Van Tho always promotes and encourages his children, grandchildren, and the people in his village to strictly abide by the Party's policies and the State's laws; to focus on doing business, developing the economy, and maintaining local security and order; to actively study and stay away from social evils; to participate in the self-governing border marker group, to strictly comply with border regulations, and not to spread illegal religion or cultivate opium poppies... He and his family are exemplary in practicing a cultured lifestyle, eliminating outdated customs, preserving and promoting the good traditional cultural values of the nation, and building a peaceful, prosperous, and happy life. He is not only a shining example of the spirit of "self-reliance" and hard work among the ethnic minorities in Nhi Son commune, but also a vivid testament to learning and following the thoughts, morals, and style of Ho Chi Minh from the simple things of everyday life.
