'The first person to ignite the flame' for Vietnamese Cheo theater.

(PLVN) - On April 15th, in Hoa Lu city, the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee, in coordination with the Vietnam Association of Stage Artists and the Institute for Research, Preservation and Promotion of National Culture, organized a scientific seminar on "The Life and Career of Lady Pham Thi Tran".

The workshop aimed to research, identify, and clarify the historical and cultural values ​​associated with the life, career, and contributions of Ms. Pham Thi Tran – one of the historical figures of the Dinh Dynasty. Delegates exchanged, analyzed, and assessed her influence on Vietnamese theatrical arts in general and Cheo singing in particular, while also proposing solutions for preserving and promoting this cultural heritage in the modern context.

Delivering a keynote address at the seminar, Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat – Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department – ​​emphasized: The Party has always considered culture, literature, and art as the spiritual foundation of society, and as the goal and driving force for the sustainable development of the country. In the new context, the preservation and promotion of national cultural values ​​has become even more urgent, including Cheo art, which was pioneered by Ms. Pham Thi Tran.

At the workshop, Mr. Nguyen The Khoa – Deputy Director of the Institute for Research, Preservation and Promotion of National Culture – stated that although Ms. Pham Thi Tran has been recognized as the founder of Cheo theater and the person who laid the foundation for Vietnamese theater, information about her life and career remains limited in public awareness. The workshop provided an opportunity for deeper research, aiming for broader and more effective recognition of her legacy.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai presented her paper at the conference.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai, along with many researchers, presented papers focusing on the following main issues: clarifying the life and career of Mrs. Pham Thi Tran, analyzing the legacy she left behind in Vietnamese Cheo and theater, and proposing directions for preserving and promoting the value of this heritage in the current cultural, economic , and social development of the locality.

The scientific seminar on the life and career of Ms. Pham Thi Tran – the founder of Vietnamese Cheo singing – is a practical activity in the plan to organize the Hoa Lu Festival of Ninh Binh province in 2025.
