Ignite the movement
Born into a Thai ethnic family (in Dak Wil commune, Lam Dong province), Ms. Ha Thi Mai became involved in youth union activities at a very young age. Even during her school years, she was passionate about volunteer work and participated in many meaningful summer volunteer programs. These youthful experiences have become invaluable assets, nurturing her desire to contribute to society.

In 2015, she graduated from university and returned to the Central Highlands. In 2022, Mai was elected as the Secretary of the Youth Union of Dak Wil commune, and she considers this a journey of responsibility and trust. "A Youth Union official must know how to listen, be approachable, and instill trust through concrete actions," Mai shared.
Dak Wil border commune has a large ethnic minority population, and youth union work is inherently challenging. However, through perseverance and creativity, Ms. Mai has helped the youth movement in Dak Wil develop significantly. "During the period 2022-2025, the commune's Youth Union mobilized and distributed over 1,000 Tet gifts to policy beneficiary families, poor households, and disadvantaged children; organized 55 campaigns with over 1,200 youth union members participating; collected 3.7 tons of waste; cleared over 25km of roads; and planted and cared for over 2,000 trees," Ms. Mai stated.

One of the most notable achievements of the Dak Wil Commune Youth Union is the "National Flag Road" youth project, celebrating the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term. In addition, the "Green House Against Plastic Waste" model, and social welfare activities such as family meals; visiting and giving gifts to young people joining the army;... have become a daily highlight of the youth of Dak Wil.
Not content with just participating in youth movements, Ms. Mai particularly focuses on supporting young people in establishing themselves and their careers. Under her leadership, the "Youth Helping Each Other Develop Economically " Club was established, bringing together 65 members with a revolving fund of over 200 million VND. From there, many models of goat farming, Thai tamarind cultivation, grass carp farming, etc., have been replicated, helping members find jobs and stable incomes.
"From 2022 to the present, 780 young people have participated in training courses, received advice on entrepreneurship, business skills, market access, and digital transformation in production; 17 savings and loan groups managed by the commune's Youth Union have supported more than 660 young households with loans, totaling over 41 billion VND. This is proof of the youthful energy and the spirit of overcoming difficulties in this border region," shared Ms. Ha Thi Mai.
Sow the seeds of aspiration, build the future.
Not only is she an energetic "youth leader," the Secretary of the Dak Wil Commune Youth Union is also an inspiration for living a beautiful and meaningful life in the community. Under her leadership, the Dak Wil Commune Youth Union has organized more than 50 "Green Sunday" and "Volunteer Saturday" campaigns and planted over 2,000 new trees.

Ms. Mai stated that from 2022 to 2025, the commune's Youth Union mobilized over 750 million VND to support union members, young people, and people in difficult circumstances; and distributed over 1,000 Tet gifts to policy beneficiary families, poor households, and children in border areas. Particularly, during the digital transformation period, the commune's Youth Union has always been at the forefront in guiding people in remote areas to install electronic identification, use online public services, and access e-commerce.
"Currently, 17 savings and loan groups managed by the commune's Youth Union through the Social Policy Bank are supporting 664 households and young people in borrowing capital for economic development. Thanks to this resource, many households have risen out of poverty, contributing to affirming the role of young people in building new rural areas in the border region," Ms. Mai said.
Through her persistent efforts, Ms. Ha Thi Mai has received numerous commendations from the Provincial Youth Union, the Vietnam Youth Union of Lam Dong province, and the local government for her outstanding achievements in Youth Union and Association work. Ms. Mai affirmed: "Despite different starting points, every young person can rise up if they have willpower and belief."
