(NLĐO) – Not only is Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quan a dedicated scientist , but he is also known as a highly skilled teacher.

In the field of science and technology, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quan is not only a dedicated scientist with highly applicable research projects, but also a highly skilled teacher who has inspired countless generations of students with a passion for successful entrepreneurship.

Currently, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quan is the Head of the Biofuel and Biomass Laboratory at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City).

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quan is a former student of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. After graduating, he continued to pursue scientific research and completed his doctoral program at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology in 2008.

After that, he returned to Vietnam, where he continued both teaching and dedicating much of his time and effort to guiding and supporting student entrepreneurship.

"Scientific research must be oriented towards practical application; it should absolutely not be a mere study aimed at achieving results."

Bridging the gap between teachers and students.

Although he hasn't graduated from university yet, Ngo Tran Bao Viet, a chemical engineering student at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, has already established his own laundry detergent brand. In the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), the number of orders has increased significantly.

Viet confided that he harbored the intention of joining a laboratory soon, starting scientific research and carrying out practical projects from his second year of university.

The student, beaming, recounted, "The first time I sent an email to the professor to express my request, I fumbled around for a while, and before I could finish composing anything, I accidentally pressed send."

Viet was extremely worried, thinking his teacher would scold him and he would "lose points." At that moment, Teacher Quan gently said, "It's alright, we'll work together a lot more, don't worry about these small things."

"At that moment, I felt their open hearts, their warmth, and it further motivated me to pursue scientific research," Viet recalled.

Looking towards the bottles of laundry detergent ready for delivery, Viet cherishes the time he spent "living and breathing" the lab to research and develop his own brand of laundry detergent. Although he hasn't graduated yet, he's already financially independent and able to help his family.

"My teacher taught me both professional knowledge and important life skills. He instilled in me confidence and a thirst for learning. Furthermore, he encouraged me to always think creatively, explore new things, and constantly expand my own limits," Viet confided.

Helping students reach out to the wider world.

Vuong Hong Linh, a student at the University of Technology, is gradually commercializing an anti-counterfeiting technology application called DeepVoucher. This is also a project supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Quan.

"I haven't taken any of Professor Quan's classes, but I've had the opportunity to work with him for almost a year. In the beginning, he patiently explained the basic concepts of blockchain to me. When I grasped them a bit better, he connected me with international experts to continue my research. This is an honor and a stroke of luck for me," Linh said slowly.

"Blockchain is not just about cryptocurrencies" is a quote that Linh will always remember. Teacher Quan explained that, amidst the booming cryptocurrency market, someone who understands blockchain should choose a path that serves society rather than reaping the rewards from cryptocurrencies; that's what constitutes long-term value.

Throughout his time at the university, Associate Professor Nguyen Dinh Quan has nurtured many young entrepreneurs, and numerous projects have gone on to achieve global success. For Professor Quan, scientific research doesn't need to be about grand, ambitious projects.

According to Professor Quan, a highly skilled workforce must emerge from practical experience closely linked to production and research and development. High academic degrees and titles do not automatically equate to a highly skilled workforce, especially when the science and education system is still heavily burdened by the obsession with achievements. In other words, scientists must demonstrate the value of their work.

"Scientists must act like a startup, while funding, or even investors, should play the role of investors. Publishing research results and remaining at the research stage without applying or commercializing them in practice cannot possibly benefit society," Associate Professor Quan emphasized.
