Hidden behind the perennial trees on the hillside are the sturdy stilt houses with bright red tiled roofs of Chiềng Khạt village (Đồng Lương commune, Lang Chánh district). The New Rural Development program has fundamentally changed the face of a land that for generations was associated with poverty. Chiềng Khạt is changing day by day, and the lives of its people are gradually improving.

Ms. Le Thi Thoi, Secretary of the Party Branch of Chieng Khat village, said: Before the implementation of the New Rural Development Program, the village had 238 households, mostly ethnic minorities. The biggest difficulty for the village was the poor infrastructure; the roads were mostly dirt roads, which became muddy during the rainy season, making trade with the outside world very difficult. In addition, many people still worried that if they participated in the New Rural Development Program, the support policies would be cut after the program was completed.

Ms. Thoi herself has always played a pioneering role among cadres and Party members, setting an example for the people to trust and follow. Through her dedication and prestige, Ms. Thoi has mobilized the people to contribute funds and labor to build essential infrastructure, such as completing the concrete paving of village roads and alleys, constructing a village cultural center, and encouraging the development of economic models. As a result, the average income of the village in 2022 reached 33.5 million VND per person per year.

Also a respected figure among ethnic minority communities, Mr. Le Trong Dinh from Tan Thanh village, Tan Phuc commune (Lang Chanh district) has made many contributions to local development over the years through practical words and actions. Mr. Dinh proactively developed plans and programs, and implemented projects within his assigned duties. Using his prestige, he, along with other Party members in the Party branch and the village's Front Committee, mobilized the people to contribute money and over 4,530 days of labor, and donated approximately 1,200 square meters of land to build a cultural center worth 600 million VND; concreted 3 kilometers of internal village roads; and reinforced 1 kilometer of internal field roads to serve agricultural production.

Mr. Dinh has always been a role model, leading the way in applying scientific advancements to production and livestock farming. His family boldly borrowed capital to invest in developing livestock and poultry farming towards a commercial scale, earning an annual income of 120-150 million VND after deducting expenses. Besides developing his family's economy, Mr. Dinh also focuses on sharing his experience and motivating villagers to develop their economy and effectively alleviate poverty. He has encouraged households in the village to renovate their unproductive gardens, plant mango trees on approximately 2 hectares, and grow clean vegetables for the market.

Ms. Le Thi Thoi and Mr. Le Trong Dinh are two exemplary individuals among the 75 influential figures in the ethnic minority communities of Lang Chanh district who have been making a positive impact on socio-economic development, especially in the New Rural Development movement in the locality.

Speaking about the role of influential figures, Mr. Le Van Luyen - Head of the District Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department and Chairman of the Lang Chanh District Fatherland Front Committee - affirmed: Influential figures among ethnic minority communities in the district have demonstrated their role and responsibility to the community. Some, despite their advanced age, have overcome difficulties and actively taken the lead in all emulation movements. The contributions of these influential figures have helped the entire district achieve the status of New Rural Area (NRA) in 2 out of 9 communes and 3 villages, with 2 villages achieving the model NRA standard...
