Immediately after being stung by a wasp on his left earlobe, the 70-year-old male patient quickly developed symptoms of chest tightness, shortness of breath, fatigue, and a rash all over his body. He was taken to the nearest health station for initial treatment, but his condition did not improve, so he was transferred to the Hung Vuong Chan Mong Multi-Specialty Clinic (Phu Tho) for emergency care.
Here, doctors quickly activated the anaphylactic shock emergency protocol, established an intravenous line, provided the patient with high-flow oxygen, and administered medication according to the resuscitation protocol.
However, just about 10 minutes after admission, the patient's condition worsened with wheezing and progressively increasing difficulty breathing, threatening their life. The emergency team immediately intensified resuscitation measures, controlled anaphylaxis, maintained respiration and circulation, helping the patient overcome the critical phase.
After the initial condition was brought under control, the patient was safely transferred to Hung Vuong General Hospital for further specialized treatment in the Intensive Care Unit. The patient is currently undergoing continuous hemodialysis and close monitoring.
Doctors warn that wasp stings can cause anaphylactic shock within minutes, especially if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest tightness, a rash all over the body, low blood pressure, or lethargy appear. This is a medical emergency, and people should quickly take the patient to the nearest medical facility. Under no circumstances should you attempt self-treatment at home or wait for symptoms to subside on their own.
