(NLĐO) - On the evening of November 23, the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theatre performed the play "Aspiration for Peace " at the 1st Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Festival - 2024.
Ms. Vo Thi Mo attended the play "Aspiration for Peace" and emotionally expressed her joy after the performance ended.
The real-life model for the character Vo Thi Mo was deeply moved watching the play about her, written by author Ngoc Truc, directed by People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau, and performed by actors from the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theatre.
Mr. Ha Quoc Cuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theater, shared that in the history of the national liberation struggle before 1975, there were profound, hidden aspects, yet with a powerful humanistic spirit, that evoked admiration and emotion in the people of the nation whenever they recalled them.

"The life of Mrs. Bay Mo - whose name was changed to Mo when brought to the stage - is a prime example of a woman who fought against the Americans in Nhuan Duc commune, Cu Chi district. Her parents were both cadres in the anti-French resistance movement in Xom Bung hamlet, so all 11 of her siblings participated in the national liberation movement from their teenage years."
"She and her teammates went to see the play written about her, and she was moved, inspiring the actors of the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theatre. That image was so endearing and beautiful at the 1st Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Festival - 2024," Mr. Ha Quoc Cuong shared.
Ms. Bay Mo was born in 1947. At the age of 13, she was recruited by two officers of the Intelligence Subcommittee of the Central Security Bureau (Security Bureau R) to work as a secret liaison. At the age of 15, due to having to help her father take care of the garden and five younger siblings, she had to stop working at the Intelligence Subcommittee and became the Deputy Leader of the Xom Bung hamlet guerrilla unit (Nhuan Duc commune).
Brave and skilled in combat, just one year later, she was promoted to Deputy Commander of the Village Militia, directly commanding the guerrilla forces of Xom Bung hamlet.
The play, which depicts her passionate youth, was shared by author Ngoc Truc at the Scriptwriting Workshop organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Association: "I rewrote her life from the perspective of today's generation of authors, to spread the spirit of patriotism, unwavering will, and above all, the humanistic spirit of the Vietnamese people."
Author Ngoc Truc was delighted to meet Ms. Vo Thi Mo again - the real-life inspiration for the script "Aspiration for Peace" that she wrote and which participated in the 1st Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Festival - 2024.
As a revolutionary fighter who achieved many glorious victories, Mrs. Bay Mo's fame spread throughout the war zone. The Liberation Film Studio once went to the Cu Chi battlefield to film scenes of Mrs. Bay Mo fighting on the ground and made it into the film "Female Guerrillas of Cu Chi".
The image of Bay Mo became a symbol of the beautiful female guerrilla fighter who bravely embraced her rifle and fought on battlefields throughout Southern Vietnam. And on stage, through the play "Aspiration for Peace," the artists recreated that spirit, deeply moving her.
Leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports congratulated the artists and creative team of the play "Aspiration for Peace" by the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theatre at the 1st Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Festival - 2024.
People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, presents flowers to Mrs. Vo Thi Mo after the performance of the play "Aspiration for Peace" by the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theater.
