Vietnamese tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh jumped three places to 23rd in the world rankings. She achieved this after reaching the quarterfinals of the 2023 US Open, accumulating an additional 3,850 points. This is the highest ranking ever achieved by a Vietnamese female tennis player.
Leading the rankings is Japanese player Akane Yamaguchi. The top 10 also includes two Southeast Asian players, Intanon and Chochuwong.
At the US Open, Thùy Linh successively defeated Esther Shi (USA) and Iris Wang (USA) to reach the quarterfinals. However, she lost to the top seed Ratchanok Intanon with a score of 1-2. Prior to that, Thùy Linh also stopped at the quarterfinals of the 2023 Canada Open against Akane Yamaguchi.
Thùy Linh achieved the highest ranking in the history of Vietnamese women's badminton.
In 2023, Thùy Linh had a very impressive performance. She won the Vietnam International Challenge and was runner-up in the Thailand International Challenge. Continuously participating in World Tour Super tournaments helped Thùy Linh earn many points, improve her ranking, and gain more international competition experience.
" I'm not young anymore. I've worked hard for many years, and now is the time for me to shine and compete in more international tournaments ," Thuy Linh shared.
After the US Open, Nguyen Thuy Linh will return to Vietnam to train before heading to Denmark for the World Championships in August. Following that, Thuy Linh will participate in the Asian Games in Hangzhou (China). Her goal is to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
