The Ciputra Hanoi - Yonex Sunrise Vietnam International Challenge 2026 badminton tournament, with a total prize money of USD 20,000 (approximately VND 520 million), is currently taking place at the Xuan Dinh Gymnasium in Hanoi . The tournament has attracted 300 players from 14 countries and territories. It's also an opportunity for Vietnamese players, from seasoned veterans like Nguyen Tien Minh and Vu Thi Trang to emerging talents such as Nguyen Hai Dang, Nguyen Dinh Hoang, Tran Dinh Manh, and Bui Bich Phuong, to seek titles, accumulate points, and hone their skills. Mr. Le Thanh Ha, General Secretary of the Vietnam Badminton Federation (BWF), stated that following the international tournament in Hanoi, Vietnam will host two more lower-level tournaments: the FELET Vietnam International Series 2026 (August 18-23 in Bac Ninh) and the LINING Vietnam International Series 2026 (August 25-30 in Hue). "All three international tournaments are suitable platforms for young Vietnamese badminton players to gain experience and build momentum for larger competitions. Alongside national tournaments, hosting international tournaments at various levels helps Vietnamese badminton solve the problem of finding talent to succeed the older generation like Nguyen Tien Minh and Nguyen Thuy Linh," Mr. Le Thanh Ha shared.

Nguyen Thuy Linh is ranked 26th in the world in women's singles, qualifying her for high-level tournaments within the BWF competition system. Among international tournaments in Vietnam, she has only participated in one: the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open in September in Ho Chi Minh City. This is a BWF World Tour Super 100 tournament with a total prize money of $120,000 USD (six times more than the international tournament in Hanoi and twelve times more than the tournaments in Bac Ninh and Hue). If they accumulate high rankings, Nguyen Hai Dang, Le Duc Phat, Vu Thi Trang, Nguyen Dinh Hoang, and Tran Dinh Manh will also qualify for the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open.
Yesterday (March 25), Mr. Khoa Trung Kien, head of the badminton department of the Vietnam Sports Department, announced that the Vietnamese badminton team will participate in the Asian Badminton Championships in China from April 7-12. Notably, besides the leading player Nguyen Thuy Linh, the Vietnamese badminton team also includes Nguyen Hai Dang, Nguyen Dinh Hoang, Tran Dinh Manh, Pham Thi Khanh, Pham Thi Dieu Ly, Bui Bich Phuong, and Pham Van Truong. "The Vietnamese badminton team will participate in all events at this Asian Championships. This is an opportunity for the players to test their abilities, understand their opponents, and prepare as best as possible for the 20th Asian Games in September in Japan," Mr. Khoa Trung Kien stated.
At this year's Asian Badminton Championships, Nguyen Thuy Linh remains Vietnam's number one hope. She recently concluded a European tour with three tournaments in England, Switzerland, and France, all featuring top world players. Despite the challenging journey affected by the Middle East conflict, Nguyen Thuy Linh quickly regained her form, reaching the quarterfinals of the Orleans Masters in France. The Vietnamese number one has returned to training, ready to conquer the Asian Badminton Championships. Having previously reached world number 17, Nguyen Thuy Linh faces a significant challenge, needing to advance deep into international tournaments to accumulate points and maintain her ranking against fierce competition from her rivals.
