Ms. Nguyen Thi M. (Loc Dien, Phu Loc) is 86 years old this year. Not only is her health getting weaker and weaker, Ms. M. is facing more and more difficulties due to her single and helpless situation. More than a year ago, Mrs. M.'s small house had more warmth of care and concern. It was a timely source of encouragement from members of the local LFLC.
Mrs. M. was touched: “For me, being cared for and asked is a great joy in my old age. I'm sick again, so the care makes all the more sense. I thank the members of the League of Legends Club very much for coming and encouraging me when I needed it most.”
The person who visits Ms. M. the most is Ms. Lien Huong. With many years of experience as a village health worker, and also a member of the Dong An - Su Lo Youth Union, Ms. Huong has the conditions and experience to regularly visit Ms. M. Ms. Huong's health and encouragement. Ms. Huong said: "I feel happy and meaningful when I have the knowledge to be able to observe Ms. M's health situation. I hope that M.'s visits and encouragement will help her to be more optimistic and happy."
According to Mr. Huynh Huu Vien, Chairman of Dong An Children's Youth Union - Master Lu, in addition to visiting and encouraging the elderly who are lonely and difficult like Mrs. M., the members of the club also support the elderly with difficulties and illnesses through many different forms. “Currently, the club has 30% of its members are young people, this is the core force that is agile, enthusiastic and often supports the local old men and women,” said Mr. Vien.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, Head of the Representative Committee of the Phu Loc District Elderly Association, said that at present, Phu Loc district has 8 communes that have established the FGM, which are the communes of Loc Bon, Loc Son, Loc An, Loc Dien, Phu Loc town, Loc Tri, Loc Tien and Loc Binh. In particular, Loc Dien commune has 2 clubs, namely Dong An - Su Lo Club and Mieu Nha Village Club.
Lam added: “Through practical activities of clubs in the district, we realize that this is a humane, effective model, bringing practical benefits to the community, especially the elderly in the locality. In addition to being supported and improved in terms of economy, health and spirit, the clubs also organize charity activities, provide loans, pay attention to visit when sick, help the elderly have the motivation to overcome difficulties.
Not only Phu Loc district, with the aim of improving the quality of material and spiritual life, health care, poverty alleviation, and protecting the interests of the elderly, more and more youth clubs were born.
Mr. Ho Viet Le, Head of the Representative Committee of the Provincial Elderly Association, said: “The Central Committee of the Association organized 2 training courses to deploy the project on replicating the model of the Youth Youth Union Club for nearly 100 members of the Elderly Association. In addition, with the cooperation of the Representative Board of the Elderly Association in the localities, 25 clubs were trained in a timely manner. Thereby enhancing the effectiveness in guiding, surveying and building clubs, and at the same time considering and guiding the order and procedures to recognize and launch more FLC clubs.
At present, there are 40 clubs of ethnic minority groups in the province. In which, many clubs lend money to older members for production and business, organize cultural activities, practice sports, visit, encourage and help each other in a timely manner. In addition to well performing activities to take care of the elderly, the propagation, development and replication of the ELCL model is a humane and practical activity, thereby creating a second home for the elderly, where they can share, support their spirits, health and help each other's livelihood.
