According to a decision announced on June 19, the fee for a single-entry visa will increase from 3,000 to 15,000 yen (approximately $90), and the fee for a multiple-entry visa will increase from 6,000 to 30,000 yen.
This is one of Japan's most significant visa fee adjustments in decades. The government argues that the increase is necessary to reflect actual administrative costs and to bring Japan's visa fees closer to the standards applied in the Group of Seven (G7) industrialized nations.
According to Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, the government hopes that the visa fee increase will not significantly impact the flow of international tourists to the country.
