Singer Nhat Huyen returns after a period of absence, once again with a project that is… 'unlike anything else', even 'unconventional' as she herself admits.

Nhat Huyen is currently a vocal music lecturer at the Military University of Culture and Arts, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel - Photo: Provided by the interviewee.

Previously, Nhat Huyen released an album of Ave Maria songs featuring Ave Maria pieces arranged with a symphony orchestra conducted by Tran Nhat Minh.

Following that was the album "Five Elements," which drew inspiration from the five elements of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, telling the story of life, humanity, and love in a magnificent way against a backdrop of semi-classical fusion music.

The artist has just released the album "Colors of the Country - Colors of Peace" to spread love for the homeland, national pride, and a humanistic message about peace through music .

For this comeback, the singer, born in 1982, chose to collaborate with musician Ta Duy Tuan and many guest artists.

The album includes 8 brand new songs. Along with them, 8 music videos will be released gradually on the artist's YouTube channel.

It might not go viral, but it's something I want to do.

* Related to this topic, why are there 8 new songs instead of familiar songs that have stood the test of time?

- Huyen has always been going against the grain. You could even call her crazy! From her debut album, which consisted entirely of Ave Maria songs in a niche genre; to the Five Elements album , which included songs unlike anything else at that time.

These albums may not go viral as explosively as many other products on the market, but they are what Huyen wants to achieve in her career.

Besides, I think that constantly covering the hugely successful songs of previous generations is just changing the singer's name. Who's to say we can sing them as well as the older generations?

Why not try exploring, discovering, and creating your own unique value? Huyen isn't afraid to release an album of patriotic songs, full of brand new tracks.

* Composer Ta Duy Tuan has recently become quite popular in this genre. Nhat Huyen also seems to have chosen her collaborators wisely?

- Tuan understands my voice even better than I understand myself. He knows how to bring out the most beautiful and advantageous aspects of my mezzo-soprano voice and incorporate them into the work in the most appropriate way.

He's a talented songwriter who writes songs about his homeland, country, the Party, and Uncle Ho, with a diverse range of musical styles. Why not collaborate?

The music video "Even If It's the Last Time" is one of eight music videos in the project.

Young people have their own ways of expressing patriotism.

* Watching the music video, you don't see scenes of bloodshed, soldiers' uniforms, battlefields, bombs falling, or bullets flying – images all too familiar when discussing products on this theme. Instead, you see a concert hall and elegant music, with a mix of pride, romance, and lyricism… What's the most challenging aspect of creating a patriotic music project in this day and age?

- We didn't directly live through the war, but we understand history through the stories of our grandparents and parents, through books, films, and school. Even so, we still feel the sacrifices of our ancestors and consider them beautiful lessons about patriotism.

As musician Ta Duy Tuan said, the color of the country is the color that rises from the black mud, the color of Mother Earth. And the color of peace today is green.

It is an intersection and a connection. A simple yet profound explanation of a Vietnam that has gone through war, loss, and suffering to achieve the greenness of peace it enjoys today.

War, history, and homeland, seen through the lens of young people in this project, are colored with pure love, nostalgia, and an atmosphere of hope.

We aspire to the beauty and innovation of our country. This project is a place where young people connect with each other to create "the color of peace."

* But is Nhat Huyen following any trends with this project? There's a patriotic music trend going on right now, isn't there?

- Not at all. My more than 20 years in the military have made this project not just a personal reflection, but also a civic responsibility of a soldier. My experiences in the military environment have instilled in me a sense of gratitude and compelled me to find a way to express my thoughts and feelings about my love for my country.

But even following this patriotic trend is good (laughs). The most important thing is the feeling from the heart. I believe music is an art form that cannot lie; subtlety and sincerity in emotion are what the audience can feel most clearly in the lyrics and notes.
