To ensure energy supply for the province's socio -economic development, the electricity sector has allocated approximately 15 trillion VND this year to implement various projects.
Many major projects have been completed or are nearing completion.
Dong Nai is a key electricity consumer, a central hub connecting the Southeast region with the Central coastal region, and many large power projects have been invested in the province.
Mr. Bui Quoc Hoan, Deputy General Director of the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC), said that in 2025, the Vietnam Electricity Group and its affiliated units will implement 13 power generation and grid projects with a scale of 110-500kV in the province. To date, 2 projects have been put into operation, 6 projects are under implementation, and the rest are preparing for commencement.
“These are all important national energy projects, both in terms of power generation and transmission. These projects will provide electricity for the socio-economic development of Dong Nai and other provinces in the Southern region in 2025 and beyond. At the same time, the projects contribute to ensuring the security and safety of the national power grid,” shared the Deputy General Director of EVNSPC.
In 2025, the electricity sector plans to allocate approximately 15 trillion VND to implement power projects in the province. This includes about 10 trillion VND for 110-500kV power grid projects, nearly 4 trillion VND for the expansion of the Tri An Hydropower Plant, and the remainder for 110kV power grid projects.
Regarding this issue, Mr. Do Huu Hoang, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Power Company Limited (PC Dong Nai), said that in 2025, the company plans to invest in 11 new 110kV power projects, renovate and upgrade some 110kV grid and substation projects, and invest in new 22kV power grid projects. To date, 2 110kV projects have been energized, and the rest are underway or about to start construction.
According to Dong Nai Power Company, some areas of the power grid are currently operating at full load. If this situation persists, it will cause voltage drops on the grid, leading to energy losses and reduced transmission efficiency, potentially causing power outages and affecting the lifespan of equipment.
Mr. Cao Quang Quynh, a member of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), stated that Dong Nai is a key area for EVN in electricity supply, and therefore, many key energy projects are invested in the province. To ensure the projects are implemented, completed, and put into operation on schedule, Mr. Quynh requested the Provincial People's Committee to direct relevant departments, agencies, and localities to support investors in land clearance, investment approval, and project construction.
Besides projects in the power sector, this year, the province will have two thermal power projects put into operation. These are the Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant Project, expected to begin commercial operation in August 2025, and the Nhon Trach 4 Power Plant Project, expected to begin commercial operation in November 2025. When operational, these plants will add approximately 9 billion kWh of electricity to the national power grid.
Proposal to undertake the largest solar power project ever.
A key national power project scheduled to commence in May 2025 is the Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion in Vinh Cuu District. The project, invested by EVN, is classified as a Group A industrial project with a total investment of over 3.9 trillion VND and a capacity of 200 MW. The project is expected to increase the power generation capacity for the southern region, contributing to the improvement of the power system and, consequently, reducing production costs for the national power grid.

In addition to the projects already planned for implementation, EVN has also proposed a 1,000 MW floating solar power project on Tri An Lake in Vinh Cuu district. If implemented, this would be the largest solar power project in the province to date.
“Recently, EVN registered to implement a 1,000 MW floating solar power project on Tri An Lake. The group's advantage is its existing power grid system, and combining the operation of floating solar power with the Tri An hydropower plant is the optimal electricity production solution. The group hopes the province will support the implementation of this project to ensure electricity supply for the province and the whole country,” Mr. Cao Quang Quynh, a member of the EVN Board of Directors, suggested.
According to Mr. Thai Thanh Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, in recent times, in its role as an advisory body to the province in the field of energy, the department has been urging investors to implement new projects according to the power development plan; and requesting the upgrading and renovation of old facilities to ensure electricity supply for production, daily life, and other activities.
Dong Nai has major power generation and transmission projects such as: Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Power Plants, Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion, and 110-500kV transmission lines. These projects provide sufficient energy for the province's socio-economic development, airport and seaport operations; and the formation of new industrial zones and urban areas.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Duong Minh Dung stated that electricity is a crucial infrastructure for ensuring double-digit growth. To guarantee energy supply for socio-economic development, from now until 2030, the electricity sector will allocate resources to implement power generation and transmission projects according to the Provincial Plan and the Power Plan VIII. For projects scheduled for completion this year, or those facing obstacles related to investment procedures, land acquisition, and planning adjustments, the electricity sector will closely coordinate with provincial and local departments and agencies to resolve these issues.
