This was shared by representatives from various schools during an online television counseling program organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper on the afternoon of June 22nd, themed "Options for students who don't get into public high schools." The program was broadcast live at thanhnien.vn , on the Thanh Nien Newspaper Facebook Fanpage, YouTube channel, and TikTok.
Teachers participating in the career counseling program at Thanh Nien Newspaper provided a lot of information to help students choose their careers after graduating from junior high school.
Over the years, the labor market has consistently faced a shortage of trained workers at the intermediate and college levels. Many fields of study have high demand but low enrollment, or students lack sufficient information to register. This is especially true for the engineering, tourism , and service sectors.
Present at the career counseling program, Ms. Tran Phuong, Principal of Viet Giao Vocational School, said that the tourism, hotel and restaurant, culinary, entertainment service management, and event organization industries are currently very "hot," with businesses always in need of recruitment to supplement the workforce for those who have migrated after the Covid-19 pandemic.

"In particular, the culinary management program annually enrolls 600-1,000 students in short-term and intermediate-level courses at the school, providing comprehensive training in cooking, marketing, and skills in European, Asian, vegetarian, and industrial cuisine… enabling graduates to work immediately and aiming for positions such as head chef and sous chef. In training for these programs, the school also emphasizes French and English language skills, as these two languages are essential for this profession," shared Ms. Phuong.
At Saigon Polytechnic College, Master Nguyen Thanh Nhon, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, also informed that among the school's 29 majors, young people focus on fields such as information technology, automotive technology, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, languages, tourism, marketing, graphic design, interior design, etc. Students choose these majors because graduates are immediately employed due to the high demand in the labor market.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung, a teacher in charge of the high school section at Ho Chi Minh City International College, believes that the labor market is changing daily. Besides choosing a major that is easy to find a job in, students should choose a major that aligns with the "backbone" of the economy and matches their abilities and interests.

"In particular, tourism, nursing, and information technology are in great need of manpower… The number of students graduating each year is still relatively limited, so it has not met the actual demand," Ms. Phung commented.
