Bustling activity in Duc Quang: tending peanuts and fertilizing spring rice crops.

(Baohatinh.vn) - After enjoying the warm and joyful Lunar New Year of the Horse, farmers in Duc Quang commune (Ha Tinh province) have simultaneously gone to the fields to care for and check for pests and diseases affecting their spring crops.

In the warm weather of the early spring days, farmers in Duc Quang commune have been busy heading to the fields, starting a new production season with high expectations.

From early morning, across the fields stretching along the riverbanks, some people were thinning seedlings, others fertilizing, and still others checking the water levels in the rice paddies… All shared a spirit of excitement, hoping for a year of favorable weather and a bountiful harvest.

Mr. Le Van Doai (from Quyet Tien village) said: "This rice crop, my family cultivated more than one acre. After Tet, we went straight to the fields. The rice is in its young stage, so we have to take good care of it, thinning and replanting, and fertilizing in a timely manner. Seeing the fields so green and healthy at the beginning of the year makes me feel very reassured."

The villagers erected plastic barriers along the edges of the rice fields to keep out rats.

In the spring of 2026, Duc Quang commune planted nearly 1,200 hectares of rice, mainly using high-yield, high-quality varieties such as Bac Thinh, Huong Binh, Nep 87, Nep 98, VNR20, TBR97, and Khang Dan. The commune's steering committee and the villages and cooperatives guided farmers to structure each field with 1 to 2 varieties with the same growth period to facilitate care and minimize pest and disease damage.

This year, thanks to favorable weather conditions and proactive land preparation and planting before Tet (Lunar New Year), many spring rice crops in Duc Quang are growing quite uniformly. The local government also promptly issued a plan to improve production, guiding farmers on pest and disease control and ensuring irrigation water supply.

Besides tending to their rice crops, farmers in Duc Quang commune are also taking advantage of the warm, sunny weather to focus on weeding and caring for their spring peanut crops.

Mr. Bui Dinh Hoang (Quyet Tien village) said: "Every spring, my family maintains the production of 2 sao (approximately 0.2 hectares) of peanuts because it is one of the crops that brings in a significant income. Thanks to the high-yield L14 peanut variety, along with proper land preparation and diligent care, the spring crop of 2025 yielded 3 quintals of dried peanuts per sao, bringing in 24 million VND after 4 months of production."

Favorable weather conditions have resulted in the healthy growth of over 120 hectares of spring peanuts in Duc Quang commune. Each lush green peanut field is beginning to bloom, and each plot has been carefully tilled, reflecting hopes and faith in a bountiful harvest.

Adhering to the seasonal schedule, since the Lunar New Year holiday, Duc Quang commune has completed planting nearly 1,200 hectares of rice, nearly 400 hectares of corn, peanuts, and various vegetables. This year, the locality has converted and consolidated 540 hectares of large fields, with a minimum area of ​​10 hectares per zone; creating favorable conditions for the introduction of mechanization into production and freeing up a large portion of the labor force. Immediately after the Tet holiday, the commune's production steering committee directed the cooperatives to pump water promptly and adequately, creating conditions for farmers to care for and control pests and diseases in the spring rice crop.
