Behind the sweat on the training floor, behind the glory of the medal, lies a long journey of overcoming personal limits, affirming their character, and the burning passion for martial arts of these eighteen- and twenty-year-old girls.
Born in 2007, Ha Kim Thanh, residing in Nam Cuong ward, possesses a pretty face and a radiant smile. This young woman has been involved in martial arts for eight years. Initially, Kim Thanh took up martial arts simply to improve her health and learn self-defense. However, fate and exceptional talent led her to a professional martial arts career in 2019, when she was selected to join the Sports Training and Competition Center (now the Provincial Center for Culture, Arts, and Sports).
Transitioning from amateur training to a professional environment was a major turning point, fraught with difficulties and challenges. Intense physical training and high-intensity sparring under harsh weather conditions often left the young woman exhausted.
Kim Thanh confided: "When I first joined the center, the weight-cutting sessions for competitions and the intense training days left my body bruised, and there were times I felt discouraged. However, every time I stepped into the ring, my only goal was to compete with all my might, overcome my opponents, bring glory to my province, and add to my personal record."

It was that strong will that helped Kim Thanh consistently reap the rewards at the national level in both traditional martial arts and Vovinam.
The collection of achievements of this girl born in 2007 is truly impressive: Silver Medal, National Youth Traditional Martial Arts Championship 2022; Silver Medal, National Youth Vovinam Championship 2023; Bronze Medal, National Traditional Martial Arts Championship 2023; Bronze Medal, National Traditional Martial Arts Championship 2024.
In particular, the pinnacle of Thanh's journey of effort was the prestigious Gold Medal at the 2025 National Youth Traditional Martial Arts Championship. This achievement not only affirmed Thanh's talent but also served as a well-deserved reward for her perseverance and hard work.

Sharing the same passion for martial arts as Kim Thanh, Trieu Thi Khuyen Tuyet, a Dao ethnic girl born in 2008 in Lam Thuong commune, came to martial arts with a thirst for learning. From a young age, Tuyet loved sports. In 2022, when coaches from the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center came to the area to recruit athletes, she registered to participate. Although this sport was still quite new and challenging for a girl from the highlands, Tuyet did not hesitate to pursue her passion.
The journey from home to the provincial center for training at such a young age was no easy challenge for this Dao girl. But with the resilience of a girl from the highlands, Khuyen Tuyet quickly adapted to the rigorous training environment.

Over the years, Tuyet's footprints have been imprinted on the mats from North to South, through provinces and cities such as Quang Ngai, Vinh Long, Dong Thap , Binh Thuan, Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Thai Nguyen (before the merger)... Wherever she went, this Dao girl competed with a resilient and courageous spirit.
The result of those efforts is an impressive record of achievements, in which Khuyen Tuyet has excellently won a Silver Medal at the 20th National Youth Vovinam Championship in 2023; a Bronze Medal at the National Traditional Martial Arts Championship in 2023; a Bronze Medal at the 21st National Youth Vovinam Championship; a Bronze Medal at the National Traditional Martial Arts Cup in 2025; and especially a Gold Medal at the Northern Vovinam Championship in 2024.
Khuyen Tuyet shared: "Many people think girls are weak and unsuitable for high-intensity competitive sports like martial arts. But I think differently; women can absolutely be strong and demonstrate a fighting spirit no less than men."
After graduating from high school, Tuyet plans to continue her studies in professional sports, pursuing her dream of becoming a coach, returning to teach martial arts, and inspiring talented children in her hometown.

To achieve the prestigious medals and remarkable growth of female athletes like Kim Thanh and Khuyen Tuyet, we cannot overlook the quiet but crucial role of coach Tran Van Luc – the teacher who inspires, nurtures, and ignites the passion for martial arts in the young athletes at the center. Having dedicated many years to martial arts training, "Coach" Luc understands better than anyone the hardships and difficulties that female athletes face when choosing a professional martial arts career.
Commenting on the female students in the provincial Vovinam team, coach Tran Van Luc shared: “On the training mat, I am always strict to help them develop their courage and tactical skills, but in everyday life, I always listen and understand to share with them the thoughts and difficulties of adolescence. Seeing them mature through each tournament, bringing glory to the province's sports, that is the greatest happiness for a teacher.”
The female martial artists of Lao Cai are a powerful source of inspiration for young people to dare to challenge themselves, overcome their limits, and shine, contributing to their homeland.
