A 10-year dream
Dong Nhat Huy, 34, a freelance photographer and designer from Vung Tau ward (Ho Chi Minh City), carried with him a dream he had cherished for 10 years to Mu Cang Chai ( Lao Cai province ) in mid-September. The first time he saw the golden terraced rice fields on an old calendar, he was captivated by the high-altitude nature. Due to his office job at the time, Huy couldn't make the trip. When he switched to freelance work, he began to plan and turn his dream into reality. The four-day journey (September 18-21), though shorter than expected, was a fulfilling experience for Huy. He said that standing before the rice paddies of Mu Cang Chai for the first time, he was overwhelmed with feelings of "awe and enchantment." "Everywhere I go, I'm surprised by what's on display. Even with the most modern camera in hand, I still feel I can't fully convey the breathtaking beauty of this land," he told Tri Thức - Znews.

Penthouses in the middle of rice fields
Initially, Huy intended to capture the golden hues of the rice paddies and the majestic beauty of the mountains and forests. Then he realized that the small wooden houses halfway up the hills, built by locals for farming and shelter, held an irresistible charm. He jokingly called them "penthouses" perched precariously amidst the sea of rice, both adorable and adding vibrancy to the landscape. These wooden houses are scattered across the terraced fields from the raspberry-shaped hills of La Pán Tẩn and Kim Nọi, the "rice hammock" fields of Sáng Nhù and Linh Chi, to the horseshoe-shaped landscape. "If it were just golden rice, the landscape painting would still lack a focal point. These small houses add depth to the frame and highlight the vibrancy of the fields, where people are in harmony with nature," Huy shared.
