Optimizing the production process

As one of the five outstanding projects awarded the "White Bird - Creative Bird" title at the University of Da Nang, the project "Green Storm Automatic Smart Potting Machine" by students Nguyen Viet Hoang, Ho Ngoc Khanh Quynh, Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Nhi, Ta Quang Bao, Nguyen Le Hoai Bao, Chau Chi Hieu, and Hoang Le Anh Tuan (University of Economics , University of Technology, University of Education and Technology) aims to solve the problem of labor shortage and improve production efficiency in nurseries.

Green Storm has three main advantages: reduced labor, increased productivity, and fewer errors and defects during the potting process. According to the research team, just one machine operator can replace four manual laborers, thereby reducing labor costs by approximately 60-70% per crop.

In terms of productivity, the machine averages 2,000-3,000 seedlings per hour, much higher than manual methods, contributing to timely fulfillment of orders and forest planting schedules.

Green Storm is designed with a closed-loop "5-in-1" automation system, producing a continuous supply of finished seedling bags while requiring only simple operation and supervision from the operator. Specifically, the machine integrates five functions: tilling and soil preparation; opening seedling bags; loading and compacting soil; sowing seeds; and arranging seedling bags.

Student Nguyen Viet Hoang said that the group aims to build an ecosystem of smart agricultural equipment, with the Green Storm potting machine as the initial product.

During the period 2026-2028, the group plans to combine mechanics, electronics, and digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and cameras to develop a series of automated devices including seed sowing, watering, and temperature-humidity monitoring; simultaneously, they will build a mobile application to help farmers monitor and control remotely, and a camera system for early fault detection and warning.

Meanwhile, a group of students including Nguyen Hung Tam, Le Anh Van, Le Thi Cam Doan, and Pham Thi Thu Thuy (University of Technical Education, University of Economics) designed the project "LotusEase Semi-Automatic Fresh Lotus Seed Shelling Machine".

The idea for this project stems from the fact that the process of shelling fresh lotus seeds is mainly done manually, requiring a lot of effort, taking a lot of time, and easily causing injury to workers, while the productivity is low and the percentage of intact seeds is not high.

LotusEase is designed as a semi-automatic machine, easy to operate and suitable for small-scale production. The machine is expected to have a productivity of approximately 50 kg of seeds per hour, maintaining an average intact seed rate of 88%.

As a result, lotus growers and processors significantly reduce labor costs, minimize product losses, improve product quality, and shorten the time to market, thereby contributing to increased income and economic value of the lotus crop.

Student Nguyen Hung Tam informed that in the coming time, the group will focus on researching and perfecting the LotusEase product to ensure the highest stability, durability, and efficiency before launching it to the market.

Specifically, the team conducted long-term field trials at lotus farms and processing facilities, and collected feedback from users to improve the accuracy of shell separation, reduce spoilage rates, and optimize the operating experience.

Ensuring safety

To upgrade traditional life vests, students Nguyen Van Tai, Tran Van Phuc, and Dang Thanh Son (University of Economics) created the project "Active Search Life Vest".

This research topic focuses on applying science and technology to improve the effectiveness of rescue operations, ensure the safety of victims, and enhance the user experience in activities on rivers, lakes, and seas.

The system operates based on a combination of a smart bracelet and a self-propelled lifebuoy. When the user wears the bracelet and falls into the water, the water or pressure sensor will be activated.

The GPS-enabled bracelet automatically detects and transmits an emergency signal and location data via radio waves to the lifebuoy. Upon receiving the signal, the lifebuoy uses compass and GPS sensors to determine its direction of travel, automatically approaches the victim, assists in buoyancy, and brings the person to a safe area, while simultaneously sending information to the management system or rescue forces.

The project's highlights include its ability to search for and reach victims completely automatically, accurate GPS positioning to shorten rescue time, real-time connectivity to monitor the buoy's status and location, instant emergency activation regardless of the victim's consciousness, and guaranteed durable operation in water environments, suitable for various conditions.

Through this research project, the research team hopes to contribute to improving community safety, reducing drowning fatalities, and enhancing rescue capabilities in emergency situations, bad weather, or limited visibility.

For rescue teams, the system reduces the risks associated with manual access and supports quick and accurate decision-making thanks to real-time data.

In addition, the solution also targets the high-end tourism and service sector, providing modern, lightweight protective equipment standards, contributing to enhancing the professional image and safety of units operating on waterways.
