Letters exchanged during exam season
Letters sent to the city
"Dear students of Lao Cai City High School No. 1."
When our beloved Lao Cai received the "bad news" that a patient had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the 2021 High School Graduation Exam was fast approaching. Perhaps you, like me, are all working hard, studying every hour and every minute to review your knowledge and hone your skills in order to achieve the best possible results in the upcoming exam.
(...) When we received the notification from the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training that schools in Lao Cai city would stop in-person classes and switch to online learning, while schools in districts like ours would still have in-person classes but had to ensure compliance with epidemic prevention regulations, my feelings were mixed. Partly because I felt so lucky to still be able to go to school, to see my teachers and friends. Partly because I thought of my classmates, I thought of the online learning period we went through last school year, which was also full of difficulties and hardships (...).
However, with the determination of the teachers and the efforts of the students, I believe that all of us will successfully overcome this challenge. I wish you all high scores in the upcoming high school graduation exam."

These are letters from 12th-grade students of Bat Xat District No. 2 High School to 12th-grade students of Lao Cai City No. 1 High School during the final days of exam preparation before the 2021 High School Graduation Exam. Reading these letters, anyone can understand that each word is filled with anxieties, concerns, and shared feelings of 12th-grade students during this special exam season.
These days, not only students from Bat Xat District High School No. 2, but also students from other localities are sending many heartfelt messages of encouragement and support to 12th-grade students in Lao Cai City. The letter from student Nguyen Nguyet Linh, from Van Ban District High School No. 4, touched many students.
In her letter, Nguyet Linh wrote: “After a long period of studying with the constant threat of an epidemic, in this final stage, we hoped to return to school to review with our teachers and classmates. However, the unexpected arrival of the epidemic has made all of you who are preparing for exams feel very stressed and anxious, hasn't it? The pressure of the epidemic, the pressure of online studying, the pressure of the hot weather, the pressure of exams, of preparing applications, and choosing schools may have sometimes left you feeling overwhelmed and fearful. But dear friends, behind those fears, we have a strong Lao Cai, united in purpose and determined to push back the epidemic. We have a small family of parents and relatives taking care of us (…). We have dedicated teachers who teach us every day through the small screen. We also have loving friendships that share and support us every day. I believe that we, especially "12th graders in Lao Cai city, and 12th graders throughout the province, are accelerating their revision, dedicating all their energy, intellect, and determination to the exam."
Such touching letters sent from mountainous districts to Lao Cai city during exam season, widely shared on social media, have had a strong impact, becoming a great source of encouragement and motivation for 12th-grade students in Lao Cai city who are struggling with online exam preparation, giving them the confidence to overcome the "exam challenge".

Teachers support students in overcoming the "gateway to success".
As the 2021 High School Graduation Exam approaches, teachers are always there to support 12th-grade students through all difficulties in conquering this challenging exam. Not only the teachers directly teaching the students in the classroom, but also many other teachers from the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training share their concerns, hopes, and dreams, offering words of encouragement and heartfelt support to the students.
Teacher Do Thanh Tung, Deputy Head of the Secondary Education Department, Lao Cai Department of Education and Training, wrote on his personal Facebook page: “This year, the Lunar New Year holiday was extended due to the pandemic, and the end-of-semester II exams had to be moved up earlier than scheduled. 12th-grade students were also unable to attend the annual end-of-year ceremony as in previous years, nor could they organize a gratitude ceremony to thank their parents and teachers. It must be said that 12th-grade students this year have many thoughts and emotions, both anxious and nervous as they prepare for the upcoming graduation exam. Remember the reminder from your teachers: Don't worry too much about the pressure of grades, because excessive worry will make you lose your composure and easily lead to mistakes during the graduation exam.”

In particular, with the high school graduation exam just days away, Ms. Duong Bich Nguyet, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Lao Cai province, wrote a letter of encouragement to 12th-grade students throughout the province. The letter acknowledges the efforts of teachers and students across the province:
“In the collective efforts of the entire community, I am especially proud of the efforts and determination of the teachers and students in the Education and Training sector. The teachers and students have truly been ‘soldiers’ in the ‘school fortress’; they have both seriously and fully implemented the directives of the Government, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Provincial Party Committee , and the Provincial People's Committee on epidemic prevention and control, while also effectively carrying out activities to prepare for the graduation exams.”
Concluding the letter, teacher Duong Bich Nguyet reminded and encouraged teachers and students of all schools to work together, overcome all difficulties of the pandemic, and confidently pass the upcoming important exam: “Teachers must absolutely not be complacent or lose vigilance, but also not be overly panicked or worried; teachers should take advantage of this golden time to cultivate knowledge for students, flexibly apply various teaching methods, and overcome all difficulties to improve the quality of review. For students, this is an opportunity for them to affirm their ability to cope with difficulties and strive to excel in all circumstances, constantly self-studying and reviewing to achieve the highest results.”
Entering this special exam in a special context, I believe that the experiences gained during this exam will be valuable memories and a precious asset that you will carry with you throughout your lives. I wish all teachers and 12th-grade students in Lao Cai province good health, peace, and continued effort and determination to reach the finish line safely and successfully. I have confidence in and look forward to achieving the highest possible results for you in this exam!
The 2021 high school graduation exam will officially take place from July 7th to 8th, 2021. Now, as the clock ticks down, time seems to fly by, and the anxieties, nervousness, and pressure on 12th-grade students seem to increase. The province's efforts in preventing and controlling the Covid-19 pandemic, along with the encouragement and support from teachers and friends, will be a "spiritual medicine" to help students strengthen their resolve and focus on their studies, enabling them to pass the exam with good results.
