The statistics on violations show that this risk is directly present for consumers, especially those who are not vigilant when shopping.
Infiltrating into daily life
Through intensive inspections, the market gradually revealed many layers of violations hidden behind everyday buying and selling activities. The deeper authorities delved into warehouses, shops, and online sales channels, the more new cases they uncovered.
According to a report from the Department of Science and Technology, after more than a month of implementing the Prime Minister's Directive No. 38/CĐ-TTg, from May 7th to June 10th, functional forces detected and handled 81 violations related to intellectual property rights. The total amount of fines exceeded 1.027 billion VND, and the total value of infringing goods was approximately 3.7 billion VND.
For example, at a warehouse in the Da Phuoc urban area, police discovered over 5,000 counterfeit handbags bearing famous brand names, with an estimated total value of over 1 billion VND. Meanwhile, at a business on Pham Van Dong Street, city market management forces found 335 counterfeit products including handbags, backpacks, and shoes bearing famous brand names, worth approximately 157 million VND.
One incident reflects the large-scale stockpiling of counterfeit goods in a warehouse, while the other occurred right at the point of sale, where consumers can access the goods directly. From large warehouses to small retail counters, from shipments worth billions of dong to products displayed on shelves, it shows that counterfeit goods infiltrate multiple layers of distribution, reaching buyers directly.
In the first six months of 2026, the city's market management force conducted 781 inspections, detecting and handling 541 cases of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property infringement, with a total administrative fine of nearly 7.2 billion VND collected and deposited into the state budget. The total value of infringing goods was 3.7 billion VND. Of these, 193 cases involved intellectual property infringement, with total fines exceeding 3.1 billion VND, and the destruction of confiscated goods worth nearly 2.1 billion VND.
This is not just a fight for the authorities.
The discovery of numerous businesses violating intellectual property rights during crackdowns, including large-scale stores, shows that infringement continues in many sophisticated forms and methods. The line between genuine and counterfeit goods has therefore become more difficult to discern, no longer confined to small retail outlets as before.
Da Nang is a shining example in terms of the level of crackdown and the number of cases handled involving counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringement. This result is due to the decisive actions of the city's authorities in the fight against counterfeit goods, from proactively managing the area and strengthening coordination between units to applying technology to detect violations in the digital environment.
However, this fight cannot be solely the responsibility of law enforcement. As goods infringing intellectual property rights continue to evolve and infiltrate various sales channels, consumers also play a crucial role in blocking the "output" of these infringing goods. Consumer vigilance in purchasing choices is a vital control layer that helps narrow the space for counterfeit goods and goods infringing intellectual property rights in the market.
According to the City's Steering Committee 389, in the coming period, functional forces will continue to strengthen coordination with intellectual property representatives, businesses, and industry associations to gather information on product groups frequently counterfeited or infringed upon, and to identify signs of genuine versus fake products. From there, they will develop plans to inspect and handle counterfeit goods and goods infringing intellectual property rights, especially in the e-commerce environment.
Simultaneously, we will intensify propaganda efforts to raise awareness among businesses and consumers. We advise people to choose goods with clear origins and purchase them from reputable sources; to be wary of products with unusually high prices and to proactively report any violations to the authorities.
