Tam Hai island commune is surrounded by a long coastline and the Truong Giang River with two estuaries (Lo estuary and An Hoa estuary). The entire commune currently has about 92 households engaged in fish farming and oyster farming in cages, covering an area of 23.3 hectares, with an annual revenue of over 40 billion VND.
Particularly in Xuan My village, cage fish farming is thriving, with over 20 households achieving relatively high economic efficiency. Notable examples include the households of Tran Van Duc , Nguyen Van Vy, and Nguyen Hoang… Each year, each household raises 40,000 to 50,000 fingerlings in cages, earning a profit of 200 to 300 million VND.
In 2026 alone, Mr. Nguyen Hoang's household released 40,000 fish fry. After 7 months of raising them (from November of last year's lunar calendar to May of the Year of the Horse 2026), he sold the fish, achieving a revenue of over 1 billion VND, and after deducting expenses, he made a profit of 600 million VND.
According to Mr. Ho Tung Chinh, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Tam Hai commune, in practice, the locality has favorable conditions, is suitable, and has many years of experience to develop a model of commercial cage fish farming in a bio-safe manner, linking production and product consumption.
However, cage fish farming activities are still small-scale and have not yet formed a stable production chain. Access to science and technology in cage fish farming, as well as capital, is limited. Therefore, the Tam Hai Commune Farmers' Association established a professional association for commercial cage fish farmers in Xuan My village to promote the sustainable development of this industry.

According to Ms. Bui Thi Xiem, Head of the Commercial Cage Fish Farming Association in Xuan My village, the goal is to shift the mindset of farmer members from small-scale cage farming to production linkages connected with product consumption; applying new cage farming techniques, waste treatment, ensuring environmental hygiene, and food safety.
Simultaneously, the project aims to improve the productivity and quality of farmed fish, reduce production costs, increase profits, create stable jobs for members, and strive to ensure an average income of 150 to 200 million VND per member per year.
Looking ahead, the Xuan My Commercial Cage Fish Farming Association aims to maintain a stocking density of 500,000 to 600,000 fingerlings per year in cages; proactively establish partnerships for purchasing feed and veterinary medicine to reduce costs; and implement comprehensive disease prevention and control measures.
Mr. Ho Tung Chinh further stated that the establishment of the Xuan My Commercial Cage Fish Farming Professional Association contributes to promoting the strengths of aquaculture in the island commune. This strengthens solidarity, brings together farmers engaged in cage fish farming, provides support, facilitates experience exchange, and fosters linkages in production and product consumption.
