Apple calls these the first iPhones built to work seamlessly with Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence technology.
Here are five standout features on the iPhone 16 that users will experience when upgrading.
1. Sharp and vibrant Super Retina XDR display
Apple has been bringing OLED displays to regular iPhones since 2020, but if you're using an iPhone 11 or earlier, your display is still LCD. With the iPhone 16, you'll get a Super Retina XDR OLED display, which offers high resolution, true-to-life colors, deeper blacks, and support for high-dynamic-range content. Notably, the iPhone 16's display has a maximum brightness of up to 2,000 nits when used outdoors, compared to 625 nits on the iPhone 11, providing a more impressive visual experience than ever.
2. Personalized artificial intelligence through Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence, unveiled at WWDC in June, brings a new Siri experience that understands personal context. Apple also introduced creative tools like “Writing Tools” to improve writing skills, “Genmoji” that lets users create custom emojis, and a “Cleanup” feature that automatically removes unwanted content from photos.
Not all of these features will be available at launch, however. The new Siri is expected to be released in the spring, while other features will be rolled out in iOS 18.1 updates in October and iOS 18.2 in December.
3. Significantly improved battery life
With the iPhone 16, Apple has not only increased battery capacity but also optimized charging. Switching from Lightning to USB-C from the iPhone 15 series, users can now use the same charging cable for multiple devices, including laptops. The iPhone 16 also offers up to 5 hours more video playback than the iPhone 11, a roughly 30% increase in battery life.
Charging speeds have also been significantly improved, supporting up to 45W wired charging and 25W wireless charging (via MagSafe). Meanwhile, the iPhone 11 only supports up to 20W wired charging and 7.5W wireless charging.
4. Dynamic Island is more flexible
Dynamic Island, which first appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro, continues to be present on the iPhone 16 and brings a completely new user experience. Instead of a traditional "notch", Dynamic Island combines hardware and software, allowing users to interact with alerts and applications right on the screen. Users can control music, answer calls, and track flight information through applications that support this feature.

5. Useful additional buttons
The iPhone 16 comes with two new buttons: the Action Button and the Camera Control button. The Action Button, which replaces the mute switch, allows users to customize various functions such as opening the Camera app, turning on the flashlight, or recording Voice Memos. Meanwhile, the Camera Control button quickly launches the camera app from any screen and supports convenient photo and video capture operations.
Other features
In addition to the above outstanding features, iPhone 16 also has many other improvements such as:
- 48MP camera with 2x optical zoom
- Ultra wide angle camera supports macro photography
- Better water resistance
- Optical image stabilization
- Supports Wi-Fi 7 and 5G
- MagSafe Wireless Charger
With all these features, the iPhone 16 is a worthy upgrade, especially for those using an iPhone 11 or older. However, if you still want to wait, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 Air next year with more exciting improvements.
