World talented young scientists honored by UNESCO
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Thi Thanh Van (42 years old) along with 14 excellent young female scientists representing 5 continents received the World Talented Young Scientist Award in 2022. This prestigious award is within the framework of the framework. The framework of the program For the Development of Women in Science, initiated by the L'Oréal Foundation and UNESCO, honors female scientists in the fields of life sciences, environment, physics, mathematics and science computer learning.
Assoc. Van has made outstanding contributions in the field of fuel cells. Assoc. Van's work has replaced platinum in fuel cells, helping to reduce costs and have higher durability. The research is evaluated to help optimize fuel cell operation to improve efficiency and enable sustainable hydrogen energy production, avoiding fossil fuel burning and reducing carbon emissions.
She published 90 articles in domestic and foreign journals, won many prestigious national and international science and technology awards. In 2019, Assoc. Van was awarded the Vietnam Outstanding Female Scientist Award in 2019. In 2020, she entered the top 23/100 Asian typical scientists voted by Asian Scientist magazine. Currently, she holds the position of lecturer, Head of Department of Science, Technology and External Relations, University of Natural Resources and Environment, Ho Chi Minh City.
The first Vietnamese scientist to receive the Korean Astronomy Prize
The year 2022 is marked by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Chi Thiem (43 years old) being the first Vietnamese to be awarded the prize by the Korean Astronomical Society for the scientist with the best research achievements in the past 10 years. This is an award honoring a scientist (working in Korea) with excellent research achievements and proven through highly significant research works recognized by the international community.
Assoc. Thiem is a senior research fellow at the Korea Institute of Astronomy and Space Science (KASI) and an Associate Professor at Korea University of Science and Technology. He received his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA in 2012, then was awarded the post-doctoral research award from the Canadian Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics and the Humboldt Foundation (Germany). His main research direction is on dust and magnetic fields in the universe, to shed light on the origin of stars, planets and the existence of life in the universe.
Professor Abraham (Avi) Loeb, an astrophysicist at Harvard University (USA) once assessed that Assoc. Thiem was the first to demonstrate the serious damage of a speeding spacecraft by collisions with gas and dust. in the interstellar environment, and proposed an optimal design to protect the spacecraft. In addition to his work on the orientation of dust particles in the universe, he also worked on pioneering theoretical calculations for interstellar travel using radiation pressure. This is a new research direction but holds great promise for the future.
In the past year, Assoc. Thiem and two scientists, Dr. Nguyen Trong Hien (NASA, USA, team leader) and Dr. Nguyen Luong Quang (American University, in Paris, France) established the Astrophysics Group (SAGI) with the desire to contribute contribute to the development of astrophysics in Vietnam. The group operates under the management of IFIRSE Institute of Interdisciplinary Education and Scientific Research, affiliated to ICISE (Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh), where Prof. science
The only Vietnamese to receive the Royal Aviation Association Award
Dr. Nguyen Huyen Duc (27 years old), University of Bristol (UK), is one of 10 people honored in the Young Persons' Achievement Award category - an achievement award for young faces - having made a special contribution to the work. aerospace field 2022. Dr. Duc is the only Vietnamese honored in this list.
Dr. Duc received his MEng (engineering degree) in 2019 and successfully defended his doctoral thesis in aerospace engineering at the University of Bristol in 2021. He continues to undertake research and teaching roles at the university for Up to now, and published 8 articles in scientific journals of the Q1 group (all leading authors) and 10 conference reports.
Dr. Duc's main research interests are aircraft dynamics and automatic control in the production of composites used in the aerospace industry. He is particularly interested in branching methods and dynamic systems applications to solve aerospace problems.
Vietnamese professor honored by British Association of National Chemistry
Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh, University College London (UCL) is one of three scientists to win the Interdisciplinary Prize 2022, recognizing outstanding contributions to research and innovation. She has made interdisciplinary contributions in fundamental research on chemical synthesis, magnetic and plasmonic nanomaterials for biomedical applications. These studies may have a direct benefit in improving the life expectancy of cancer patients.
Prof. Kim Thanh graduated with a degree in chemistry from Vietnam National University, Hanoi in 1992. She has been appointed as a professor at University College London (UCL) since 2013 and leads an advanced interdisciplinary research group on design and synthesis. nanomaterials for biomedical applications. In 2019, Prof. Thanh received the Rosalind Franklin Medal for his influential achievements in research and application of nanomaterials in biomedicine.
