Ms. Trieu Thi Yen (second from the right), Party branch secretary and head of the Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Son village, Cam Van commune, discusses ways to preserve the traditional clothing of the Dao ethnic minority with other women.
In Phu Son village, Cam Van commune, people have high praise for Ms. Trieu Thi Yen, the Party branch secretary and head of the village's Fatherland Front Committee, not only for being a dedicated Party branch secretary who wholeheartedly serves the people, but also for being a role model in preserving the Dao ethnic culture and actively participating in the New Rural Development program.
Phu Son village has 120 households and 580 inhabitants, all of whom are Dao ethnic people. The villagers mainly engage in agriculture, forestry, small-scale handicrafts, and services. As the village leader, Ms. Yen has overcome difficulties and strived to promote and encourage the villagers to preserve their ethnic cultural identity and eliminate outdated customs. Together with the village elders, she opened a class to teach the Dao script, encouraged women to preserve the traditional craft of making ethnic clothing, contributing to the preservation of the Dao ethnic group's traditional culture and helping the younger generation not forget their roots.
Party branch secretary and head of the village's New Rural Development Committee, Trieu Thi Yen, propagated and encouraged people to change the structure of crops and livestock and apply science and technology to production, thereby changing old farming methods and striving to escape poverty... In building a model new rural village, Ms. Yen mobilized households in the village and children living away from home to donate more than 2,000 square meters of land, contribute nearly 2 billion VND, and hundreds of man-hours of labor to relocate power poles, expand and concrete roads and irrigation canals, renovate the cultural house; plant and care for flowerbeds and trees along the roads...
Prior to July 1st, 2025, as the village leader, Ms. Yen consistently emphasized to cadres, Party members, and the people in the village the importance of supporting the major policies of the Party and the State; actively and proactively participating in the socio -economic and cultural development of rural areas, especially remote villages, in order to narrow the gap between mountainous and lowland regions and create unified and sustainable development... when the two-tiered local government model comes into operation. With dedication and perseverance, the Party branch secretary and head of the village's Fatherland Front, Trieu Thi Yen, is continuing to write a beautiful story about love for her homeland and people with the whole heart of a Dao woman from the highlands.
In Ban Tho village, Nong Cong commune, Le Thi Hong, the Party branch secretary and village head, is honored by the villagers as a "female leader." This is because, for more than 10 years of dedication to Party work, from Party branch committee member (2015), deputy Party branch secretary (2017), to Party branch secretary and village head (from 2020 to the present), she has always left a prominent mark in all activities and movements in the locality.
Ms. Hong determined that, in order to gain the trust of the people and Party members in the branch, she had to build credibility through exemplary conduct and by matching words with actions. She always emphasized a sense of responsibility, taking the lead in her work, while also being close to the people, listening to their opinions and aspirations to resolve issues at the grassroots level.
Initially, assuming the positions of Party branch secretary and village head, she faced considerable difficulties, particularly skepticism from older Party members. The challenge of a young woman simultaneously leading the Party branch, directing economic development, and building a model new rural area was immense, requiring significant effort and resilience. However, with determination, a sense of responsibility, and a willingness to learn, Ms. Hong successfully fulfilled her roles and achieved remarkable success.
Under the leadership of a female "leader" from the 8X generation, Ban Tho village has seen positive changes in socio-economic development. The mobilization of people to apply science and technology, transform crop structures and seasons, and develop farm and household-based economies has brought about significant changes in production. The village has formed a high-yield, high-quality commercial rice production area; dozens of households are engaged in livestock farming according to farm and household-based models and service businesses, contributing to an estimated average per capita income of over 82 million VND/year (by 2025). With a stable economy, people are actively participating in building a model new rural village. Since 2022 alone, thanks to support from successful children living away from home and contributions from the people, Ban Tho village has completed the grounds, purchased equipment for the village cultural house, concreted roads, and built a bridge and village gate worth over 2.5 billion VND. Party branch secretary and village head Le Thi Hong is now regarded by the people of Ban Tho village as a dedicated "leader," always setting a good example and taking the lead in various movements, making positive contributions to the successful construction of a model new rural village.
Ms. Yen and Ms. Hong are just two of thousands of female leaders in localities who are actively participating in emulation movements and campaigns, effectively contributing to socio-economic development at the grassroots level and increasingly enhancing the status and role of women.
